I tried checking going prices on Gunbroker and every one had zero as the current bid. Are these non auction items or do I need to register to see the bids, whatever? The firearms had a "time to go" note making them look like they are on auction.

GunBroker has an 'Advanced Search' feature that lets you look at completed auctions so that you can see the actual price(s) for which a item sold.

One probably has to Register with GB in order to get access to that feature.

You do indeed need to look at completed auctions. How else are you to see actual prices people are buying at? ;) Ppl can ask whatever they want but if it's not selling at that amount, that price means nothing.
Do believe you need to register to do so.

You do need to register to do anything more than scroll through current auctions. You can see what the current bid is. To register you will need a credit card to pay the $1.00 charge to verify that you are a legitimate person.

All the zero bid amounts you see are mainly the overpriced guns that no one is interested in paying that much for and/or new listings that haven’t attracted anyone’s attention yet.

Go to advanced search completed auctions. type in your gun and when it comes up click on bids. Sometimes it take two clicks, but you can see the going prices.

As CaptCurt said, look at completed auctions, then click on the word "bids" at the top of that column. This will sort the listings by the number of bids. Click it a 2nd time to resort with the highest number of bids at the top. Among the top 5 or 10 you should be able to find one closest to your gun in condition, options, etc. You can also usually see what there was about the top sales that brought the high bids.

I spend a fair amount of time on GB and there seems to always be a couple of guns, almost always used, that are listed with insanely high "Buy it now!" prices. There was a gun I saw for years, over and over again, with a price $200 higher than new ones listed above or below it. Between the search for completed items and looking at the BIN prices, a reasonable price can be discovered, and a bargain sticks out. Every so often, someone puts up some crazy cheap items and if I can, I jump on them. A lot of "cosmetically challenged" shooters can be had for great prices on a regular basis. My S&W 6906 has a pretty nasty looking frame on it, and I got it for $279 shipped with 2 mags, and nothing else. It shoots great, and since it already looks rough, I don't care if it get another scratch or rub mark on it from carrying it.
