So when did the army first start issueing PVS-7B? I remember seeing someone using them on Blackhawk Down, but I could be wrong. And if i'm right that means that some of the soldiers in active INFANTRY units have nods that are 20 years old.

When I got to my first unit after basic training (Infantry) in Jan 89', my unit had mostly replaced the PVS-5s with PVS-7Bs. We still used the few 5s along with the new 7Bs until in 97' (if I remember correctly) when we traded them all in for PVS-7Ds.

When I deployed to Iraq (in 04'-05') most of our units PVS-7Ds were traded in for PVS-14s, although once again we retained a few due to the shortage of 14s.

When I first got to my unit in 02, we had the 7-D's, never saw a 7-B, by 2004 I never saw another 7-D in an infantry platoon, we had switched completely to the 14's, of course some of the other units around had older stuff. Saw some support units that had the old 7A's. So some units will have really old hand-me-downs, but for the most part, active duty infantry will get the newer cooler toys.

When I was deployed (04-05), we had both. They would issue the monos to the ground team (Infantry) guys and the duals to the Drivers/Gunners. I was on the ground team the majority of the time. I really liked the monos. They worked well with our PEQ-2/4's.
