My dad will be sending me a P85 MkII he dosen't shoot much. What's the difference between this gun and a P89? Can anyone reccommend good aftermarket grips and/or sights? I recall the sights being ok, but the grips were not too great.

I don't know much about the P85 MkII's but I don't think there's much difference. Mostly internals I believe. Safety modification maybe? Can't remember.

To your other questions. Look into Hogue wraparounds. Pachmayer also make some. I like the Hogues and have them both on my P89 and P90. They run about 20-25 bucks. Likely any sights that fit the P89 will fit the P85. May be worth a call to Ruger to check it out. They have night sights available for purchase on their website for PSeries pistols.

Ditto the wrap-around advice for the grips. Trigicon tritium night sights are available from several vendors or Ruger.com and are a huge assist in low light conditions. You might be able to pound the rear sight on yourself but the front sight needs a punch/drill that is often only found in the hands of real gunsmiths. Pay the fee, they're worth it! The P-85 is a decent pistol -- the original Ruger. P-89s and such are "product improved" models but there's nothing wrong with the P-85. It's a bit clunky compared to more recent products but it will always go "BANG" when you want it to and you won't be able to kill it. Enjoy! :D

I'd go over to the Ruger Forum and ask the experts (http://www.rugerforum.com/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/rugerforum/Ultimate.cgi?action=intro) I know there are some magazine issues with earlier P85's (not compatible with P89 series) but I can't recall the details. I had a P89 so it wasn't an issue for me.

Rugers are solid (if ugly) firearms that go *BANG* every time. I have Hogue grips and Meprolight nightsights on my P93 (actually, it's my wife's gun!). You'll enjoy your P85!
