First question I have is can .38 +p be shot out of a colt detective special?
And If anyone has seen the movie Out For Justice with Steven Seagal, the character Richie (played by William Forsthye) who Seagal is after during the movie, uses a revolver in the movie I believe a Smith and Wesson but I was wondering if anyone knows what model it is I thought it kind of looked like a model 19? Also in the movie The Last Boyscout with Bruce Willis in the beginning of the movie he carring a revolver at the small of his back in the alley I was wondering if anyone knew if it was a s&w or a colt.

Since they no longer make the Colt Detective Special I wouldn't shoot +P through it because you will wear it out faster like "The Lone Haranguer" said. If you need a goos SD load to carry in your Colt, Buffalo Bore just came out with a line of Standard Velocity .38 Special rounds that will do the job well, IMO. All 3 look like good rounds and I would carry the one that shoots best in your revolver. http://www.buffalobore.com/ammunition/default.htm#standard38

In The Last Boy Scout Bruce Willis is carrying a Smith and Wesson Model 19 with the 2.5" barrel. I now own that movie on DVD and I've done frame advance several times. I also appears that the Model 19 snubbie that he carries has the target hammer on it instead of the combat hammer.

I have no idea what Forsythe is carrying in Out For Justice. I haven't seen that movie in years.

I own a 3rd generation Colt Detective Special that was manufactured in 1974. I shoot strictly 38 special Federal Hydrashocks for duty load and 38 special semi-wadcutters for practice. It could handle a limited diet of +P rounds, but why beat it up?

That's what my Ruger SP 101 is for.

If you can test a +p load and it is accurate, you don't have to keep shooting it to the death. Shoot the standard loads for practice and load the +p for carry. This is what most everybody dose that carry a 38spl.
