Hi guys I use Quickload as a useful tool in helping to fins loads.

For a while I didn't notice Z1!

I believe it marks the powder's progressive burning limit.

I think if Z1 is to the left of max pressure then the powder is likely to be too fast for the loading combination?

Does the same go for if Z1 is to the right of max pressure then the powder is likely to be too slow for the loading combination?

Ideally and theoretically (contradictory to a large extent) should Z1 be on top of PMax?

Also how relevant is Quickload to CB versus the Jacketed variety?

For example at the target velocity I want my 30-30 and 375W at Quickload shows Reloader 7 to be the best choice!

With my 6.5x55 it shows Varget or N550!

Any thoughts, opinions or experimentation in using QL to help find and/or develop loads?

Thanks

I have no idea what Z1 is.

What I look at is the "amount of propellant burnt". If it is 100 %, all the powder burned in the barrel, which is generally good, but it can mean that the powder is too fast for that length of barrel. Meaning, a slower powder might produce a higher velocity.

And vice versa - if powder burnt is only 75%, that means it is too slow, and the unburnt 25% will make a big fireball out in front of the muzzle.

Try changing the barrel length, to see when all the powder gets used up.
