Hey all I had a question. Where in VA is good rabbit hunting? I have ate rabbit ONCE and it was one I ran over on accident. Aside from that I aint even seen one. There are a few up in Wythe where my family lives. Think I should give it a go up there?

I'm in a hunt club in Sussex, and there are plenty around there. We've got a couple members with rabbit beagles that hunt them hard.

Woah all the way in Sussex eh?....damn Thats all the way in Eastern VA...Bout 4 hours away from me lol

Your family isn't far from me, I'm in Grayson County.

I would give it a shot at Wythe. I can drive about half a mile from my house some nights and count a dozen rabbits. We're crawling with them now, always one or two by my porch at night time too.

I kinda have a soft spot for rabbits, but taking a few wouldn't hurt with their current numbers.

Oh woah...you know where Blessed Hope Baptist Church is? Thats whre my family used to go to church...But yeah Ima go lol.

I can't think of the church, but I'm sure my grandpa can tell me where it's at (he's a preacher).

Give Wythe a shot. If you can find some Christmas trees that you can hunt on, go there. Heck, as far as that goes, I might be able to hook you up over my way with a batch of rabbit.

There's buttloads by me, west central VA!. They scurry across the dirt National
Forest road I live on every morning I drive out! Let's not even talk about those 4 legged vermin deer and my Corvette!

At this point season is closed so you have until next fall to find some close to where you live.

Talk about rabbit hunting and everyone thinks of the beagle and the shotgun. When I was growing up I had a .22 period. I sort of learned by myself to walk slowly, not trying to flush them out but just get them bouncing a few paces so I could spot them. Then I'd stalk them till I could get a head shot. No meat lost, quick kills. Doesn't central VA mean around Charlottesville? That's Waltons country :), gotta be lots of rabbits there!

I know exactly what you mean. My brother has a 86 Corvette and I have hit several rabbit in it. Although, whenever I had my 89 Camaro, I believe I depleted the population of rabbits around here by a large number. Those low bumpers and lower A-arms love rabbits don't they? :neener:

Not if they're getting into my garden...

That would be my weapon of choice. Even if you do flush them in the Christmas trees, they only run around 20 yards and stop.

Nah near Roanoke...bout 2 hours away from Charlottesville. I live near the Peaks.

in the op he said that he used his car. now a serious question, would it still be poaching if he did it again? (the first possoum i had was hit by my buddies van, very greasy)

I would like to hear that conversation explaining that to the game warden.

I really don't think the game wardens could care less if you shoot rabbits in your garden, deer for that matter either.

I know I had a problem last year that I will take care of if it happens again.

Should I call the game warden for damage stamps for rabbits?

Man I am still laughing, I thought I would get a laugh or two but didnt expect to laugh this hard.
Yea I know they dont care much but nothing like getting a laugh between seasons.

Nope, trashed my 'Vette, about $6000 worth of damage hitting a F#$KING DEER! I'm about 30 miles west/south of Staunton, VA, game of every kind, few people too, absolutely PERFECT!

You know, in a few years I'm planning on relocating up towards you (James Madison University) for a while. Any good target ranges up around Staunton/Harrisonburg area?

Woof, I am getting ready to try that myself. I just like carrying my .22 ---

There is the Hite Hollow Range and West Side Rifle Range both of those are in the National Forest and are basicaly 100 yard rifle ranges. Hite Hollow is near Staunton and West Side Rifle Range is west of Harrisonburg in West Virginia. Also Top Gun is an indoor pistol Range that is located in Harrisonburg City Limits.
