Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, moving to take a lead role in the gun control debate, is turning up the pressure on banks that do business with firearms manufacturers.

Emanuel is sending letters to two major financial institutions, TD Bank and Bank of America, which offer lines of credit to gun makers suggesting that they stop lending money to the manufacturers if they don’t come out for new gun restrictions.

For those of you who are wondering where the sudden pressure from credit card processors and banks on gun-related industries is coming from... Looks like the NRA may need to start its own bank in addition to its own TV network.

56 Billion dollar industry someone will want to get a slice of it..

From the article:
“I ask you to use your influence to push this company to find common ground with the vast majority of Americans who support a military weapons and ammunition ban and comprehensive background checks.”

Vast majority of Americans?? Has he even glanced at the latest Gallop Poll results?

Also, by trying to destroy the major gun manufacturers, isn't he going to create a small problem for equipping his own storm trooper force?

I wonder what it is about Chicago city hall that turns people into creatures like this.

His immediate predecessor was really bad, but this guy makes him look almost moderate.

Tiny Dancer's Marxist tendencies are beginning to show. For a mayor of a formerly great city to attempt to dictate financial policy to people who actually built up a business is mind-boggling.

Maybe he should try actually working for a living, or running a business, before he tries to run rough-shod over those who have done both. A life-long politician knows little about working an actual job or running a business.

Both banks should tell him to pound sand, and then look to lend money to anybody but Chicago or Illinois. Neither of those entities can be trusted to pay back loans anyway.

Neither entity can be trusted, period.

I think customers of those institutions need to write them to let them know their business will go elsewhere if they start taking marching orders from Comrade Rahm.

Hrmm.. They know their laws won't pass, so they target private companies.... I wonder if we can call this tactic the " gun regulation loophole"

The manager at my local community bank 1) is a customer, 2) is a CHL holder, 3) obviously knows what we do, 4) hates 0bama, and 5) would tell Emanuel to shove that letter somewhere painful if it were sent to her bank.

While his suggestion doesn't carry much weight, banks and credit card processors have been doing this of their own accord already.

It's simply a matter of finding the right institutions, as was stated, there are many places that will want a slice of the pie.

jamesbeat: "Last time I checked, we lived in a free market economy. What happened?"

His Fascism is showing.

The Jessie Jackson Coca Cola Chicago school of economic thuggery hard at work.

So who is really running this nation anyway? Do the Chicago Police use firearms and if so, from whence did they originate? A Gun Mfg perhaps? Emmanuels guards... got guns? Bank guards or Armored Car Guards... armed? Hmmm.

It sure would be an inconvenience if they could not get new ones or if parts became totally unavailable now would it not?

Add Intuit to the list of scum, and be aware that they are the turbo tax folks also.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), which is a lobby that represents the firearms industry, has had members run into problems with anti-gun banks and credit card processors. As a consequence they can provide information on banks and other financial institutions that are delighted to get all of the gun related business that they can. Anyone who in any way is involved with a firearms industry business and have been cut off by they're regular bank or card processor should contact them.

Rahm....the mayor who tried to ban Chic-fil-a from Chicago, another Napoleon dictator wanna-be....

It would only be fair for all the gun mfgs and ammo mfgs to refuse to sell anything to the Chicago Police Department. Fair is fair. We wouldn't want Chicago to spend any of it's money on such evel things.

Classic Chicago shakedown tactics.Aldercreatures do this all the time like threatening to ban sports drinks, viola, lots of political donations from sports drink manufacturers in thier coffers and the proposed law goes away."Legal" extortion.

Rahm Emanuel is a jerk. But a smart one!

This kind of reminds me of doctors asking patients if they own firearms or the IRS creating a new Yes/No question... do you own firearms? The threat is to take away your social security or another check, or put you on the list to be investigated or a tax audit if you lie on your tax return.

Isn't Rahm just another Mayor now?

Who cares what he wants?

Thank you! So the mayor of a city (regardless of how big) writes a letter. Big deal. Rather than expressing vitriol and venom on a chat forum for a mayor expressing his opinion - freely - how about we project our energy into productive, well-articulated, thoughtful and respectful letters to those same banks telling them how much we value the fact that they do business with these companies who keep jobs in America?
