Just as the title states, do you love rails on autoloaders or wish they didnt have them.

Hehe...you said tittle.

I like the idea of rails because it gives you the option of an accessory. It doesn't mean you have to mount one.

25% yay, 75% nay.

The ONLY type of rails I like are the ones that are not noticeable such that mpmarty stated. Those are all found on polymer pistols.

Glocks, HK USPs, P2000, Walthers etc... I don't mind the rails, in fact I kinda like them.

1911s, SIGs, CZs and such should not have rails

Should have been a "don't mind one way or the other" button. I have two pistols with rails, around 40 without. One with a rail has a laser mounted, the other doesn't have anything because I use it for IDPA.

I voted yes, But...

I Like them on my HK. I think that they make 1911's look retarted, and I just can't warm up to them on sigs. Basicly, on polymer frames, yes. On metal frames, no.

I never liked them until I got a light for one, to try out. They do have a very valid purpose for certain situations. As was mentioned, you dont have to use them, but I'd rather have the option.

I like them. I use a Streamlight on mine now and again, and if you don't have a use for one it's not like they really hurt anything. If you don't like your 1911 with a rail there are 4927 manufacturers and clones that don't have rails; If you like rails on your 1911 there are nearly the same number of railed clones.

Unlike lawyer locks or warning billboards they don't look all that out of place (for the latter) and there's nothing mechanical on them to fail (for the former), especially if you don't use yours for anything.

I flat don't like 'em, but since it's a personal preference, think it's good that they're available for those that do.

They're ugly, for one.

I've got one gun with rail, all else without. I've got nothing that goes on the Doohickey Rail. A laser would be tempting, but is way down the list of things I want to get.

So my answer is "don't care."

I don't like "most" rails. I don't mind them on pistols if they don't have a crosscut. The crosscut just snags clothes and holsters and causes wear. I carry a Bersa Mini-Firestorm and it has a rail but no cutout. I don't even notice that it's there. If they're nonobtrusive, I don't mind a bit.

Rail covered forends on rifles are downright uncomfortable and covering them with caps just makes the forend wider. The forend is a poor place for accessories anyway.

This poll really needs a third choice, because it totally depends.

If a rail can be integrated into a gun without affecting either the athstetics or functionality or inducing snagging then by all means, I'm for it.

If the rail is totally an afterthought and otherwise wasn't built into the gun and compromisess both looks and concealability then obviously I think it's a no-go.

No.

Rails look totally out of place on 1911s, SIGs, CZs ... even the M-9. Put 'em on your Tupperware if you choose, but don't ruin the lines of the classic pistols.

I'd just as soon be able to hold my flashlight in my off hand and put it in my pocket or on my belt when I'm not using it ...

Totally depends on circumstances.

On a carry gun it may not be used because most concealment holsters wont hold the gun with a light mounted on it.

For a home defense gun, absolutely. It lets you keep a hand free to open doors, and ID the potential threat. Using techniques like shining the mounted light at the floor and using the reflection keep you from pointing the muzzle at someone until you confirm them to be a threat.

For a duty gun, again absolutely. Just look at the US Marine Recon units with their railed 1911s, and the military contract on the new rail equipped M9A1 for standard issue. I also notice more & more LE officers taking advantage of the rail on their duty pieces. On a duty piece where it may give you a life saving advantage, who cares about how it looks?

I could care less wether my pistols have accessory rails or not, but I do sometimes like to have the option of being able to add a weapon mounted light, or laser. It's an "in case" thing for me.

Great for home

The rail make a 1911 great for home use. I use my Kimber Warrior with an M6 for HD. My other 1911s don't have rails and so are easy for CCW.
