Hey,

I've picked up some of the 125 gr. JFP for my .357. I've read that I'm not supposed to use the load data for jacketed bullets for these. So, I am looking for a good starting point. I'll be using Alliant 2400 for the powder. And they'll be shot out of a 4" S&W revolver.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry, no experience with that combo here--but if you go to rainierballistics.com you can get contact information (email and phone). They encourage you to write or call for data.

Suggest you use lead bullet data or reduce jacketed bullet data by 10%. The plating is VERY thin...

You will also need to have the same bell on case mouths as you would use for lead bullets to prevent shaving the bullets. This is not normally necessary when loading jacketed bullets with a slight bevel to the bases...a slight bell or possibly none at all is fine.

66gt350, how is it going with this load?

I have some 158 gr Rainier's I'm planning on trying for 38 spl and .357. I bought the heavier bullet because I'm a little bit concerned about using these for the hotter .357 loads and going too fast. I was told you shouldn't go over 1200 fps with any Rainier bullet to prevent the coating from separating.

If you're not sure, the factory guy at Rainier told me to shoot point plank into a large piece of cardboard and look for any more than 1 hole!! He said if the jacket is separating, you'll end up with some "spattering" on the cardboard.

Please give some specifics (powder type and grains used).

Thanks!

:)
