With the remnants of Hurricane Alex over central Oklahoma and a box from Brownells of shotgun parts I started a remodel job.

A couple years ago I bought an old New Haven 600 somebody had taken a hack saw to with the intention of giving it to a friend for a HD weapon. It never ended up in his possession and has sat in the back of my safe since purchase with no use. I'm not a big fan of hack jobs so I pretty much ignored it.

Browsing Brownells one day I found several parts and decided to rebuild the old New Haven into something I might actually use.

Here it is in its original chopped form.

With all of the original parts removed

With the new parts laid out for putting back together

And finally totally put back together

It is now an 8 shot 20" smoothbore with rifle sights sporting a Houge short stock set. I'll probably use it as a dedicated slug gun since it has the rifle sights.

Total time from start to finish was right at 45 minutes. Time well spent to get a gun I'll actually use and enjoy in my opinion.

Parts used were

Brownells High Capacity Kit

Brownells Steel Safety

Houge Overmold Short stock

The only problem was the sights on the barrel were damaged so I will have to contact Brownells Tuesday for help.

No offense, but I actually liked the plain jane wood stocks better. What was wrong with the shotgun before the makeover? It appeared to be in good condition, just waiting to be used....

Yes the New Haven is a Mossberg 500.

I had originally planned on using the wood stocks but after thinking about having to get a good square cut and grinding a recoil pad to fit I figured it'd be easier to just buy a youth model stock. Plus I have the Houge on an 870 that I really like.

I wasn't happy with the hack saw barrel due to square cut issues and wanting to have rifle sights.

How was it not before?
ahem...
