I drilled out my dimples to install a +2 extension on my 870 Express. I am using a Wilson extension and a 870 police barrel. It works perfectly. The police barrel has a ball detent.

For the times I want to use my 28" field barrel, I bought some wave washers from Brownells for my 870 magazine tube.

The wave washer seems like it holds the cap on very, very tight. That is my concern. Over time, is there a chance this type of washer could damage the threads on the 870 mag tube? It is not a factory part and I don't know if Remington intended for this much pressure to be put on those threads.

Any opinions?

I don't see a need at all for the washers. When I wanted to put my field barrel on my HD 870, I would just pit the spring in and it would be held by the end cap with no problems. It never came loose.

I you have an 870 with the dimples and remove them you had better do something to keep your mag cap in place. It will work loose. I've seen guns fly apart in the field with barrel, mag spring, plug, ammo, mag cap and action all going is different directions. Luckily we were able to find all the parts and put it back together. One of these washers is one way to prevent this and I cannot think of any way it would cause problems. I've made a washer from a bicycle innertube in the past. Once the mag cap is tight the rubber washer does the same thing and keeps the mag cap tight.
