anyone use tac in 308 ? good? bad ?
loading 150gr Hornady BTSP and new Lake City brass

Works fine for me. I bought a pound just to try out. I used it for .223 and .308 and it behaves similar to H335 which I have an 8# jug that I'm going through. TAC, like H335 is a fine ball powder that meters very well. If I am in need of more, I wouldn't hesitate getting an 8# jug of it.

I have used it in my 223 loads works great for that, was thinking of trying in 308 and if it works well for it ?

Yes it does. It may not be the best, but it gets the job done. Just like in .223, a medium to full power load of 38-43g fills up the case to where it's very easy to identify. You can shake a loaded round and tell that there is powder in it so you won't miss an empty case.

Works for me using 155gr bullets. It also works at lighting 140gr tracer ammunition too. It meters very well out of a powder hopper (i.e. RCBS uniflow) so you don't have to weigh your loads as often because it throws the same charge quite repeatedly. You do get a high extreme spread in velocity compared with stick powders so something to keep in mind.

I'd read a mag primer is sometimes required to reduce velocity variations with TAC in a 308 (per a reputable gun writer). You might look into that. I'm hoping to try it with 175SMK and 178amax (or the new ELD equivalent).

A magnum primer will reduce velocity variations for pretty much all powders (the same goes for the benchrest primers too).
