On your 357 chart, you have 2 AE357A's. Both 158. One shows a velocity of 1328, and the other 1186. Why are their 2 different?

The 1328 was from today. It is American Eagle red box and the lower one was Federal in the brown box. I have to do a retest if I have any brown box left (WalMart) and see what's up. It's one of the following:

- American Eagle is loaded stronger with the same number
- Federal is loaded weaker with the same number

Or their has been a shift. I still may buy another box of WalMart brown box Federal even if I find some extras from the previous testing. I have plenty of red box American Eagle so I may do 5 from two boxes of each. Both types have a 1240 rating but that one today zinged better than just about any 158 I have tested out of my 4" barrel. Most go 1190-1200 so I was shocked.

That's interesting, I didn't even know there was a brown box AE357A. I would think they would all be from the same manufacturing process at Federal. Did you run both lot's on the same chronograph, or different chrony's?

Same Chrony. I get a chance to hit WalMart today I will pick up a box and take some photos of both.

That Underwood 10mm is moving! I just picked up some of their +P .380 and .45 colt loads and have high hopes for it. I will shoot some over my chrony next weekend and post the results.

They have some very interesting offerings and I've heard nothing but good things. I wish they offered some 158gr .38 specials rather than just the 125gr. I think I will order a couple boxes of .9mm and also a box of the .38 JHP.

The 115gr Gold Dot HP +P+ for the 9mm.

skt239,

Just call them up. Kevin will load any bullet you want on there.

Picked up a box of brown Federals today. I made a mistake on the designation for them on the sheet but will change that now. The browns are WMAE357A but have the same ratings as the American Eagles. I am going to test them both tomorrow and see if the red box American Eagles test out higher again. This is kind of interesting since they look the same...

im a huge 10mm fan. I load the 155/165 FMJ for target and just fun. For any defense or looking for black bear I load 200gr XTP to 1225fps average in a factory Glock 20 barrel.

The 10mm was meant for POWER from day one,if i wanted to down load it,i'd buy a 40cal.

Back from testing them out.

AE357A- 1282, 1278, 1313, 1318, 1285, 1284. Average 1293.33 FPS/ 586.71 LBS
WMAE357A 1326, 1289, 1287, 1338. Average 1318.8 FPS/ 610.05 LBS

Basically the same so I don't know if they had a shift or what. Either box will give the same results based on this and a stout 158 offering out of a 4".

Also did Underwood's standard 9mm 115gr FMJ and it was 1277.5 LBS/ 416.65 LBS out of a 4" barrel. Not like his +P+ but beats any standard 9mm out there.

WOW!!! That Federal 158 SP is impressive. Those numbers rival buffalo bore and doubletap. How did they feel?

It felt very strong. It's the strongest 158gr I have shot so far which baffles me. A year or so ago when I tested the brown box stuff it didn't hit much above 1200. Did they change the powder or something?

Everything in green are ones out of this same 4" revolver and this is beating DoubleTaps 158's. :what:
