Any of you experience a random low impact on ballistic tip bullets? I'm shooting a 212 grain hornady eldx and it never fails, I have a low impact round , maybe 1 out of 6 or 8. It hits low 2-3 moa. Otherwise they shoot great, 5-6" groups at 500 yds. The only thing. I can think of is the tip may be coming off?? It's loaded for 300 wm. 73 grains of rl-22 at 3.34" OAL . Cci 250 .nosler brass . 2825 fps, sd runs around 7. Its a great performer but these random low hits cannot be trusted for hunting.

Where did you get that load? Hornady #10 lists 70.6gr RL-22 as the max under that bullet.

It sounds like erratic pressure spikes might be causing the fliers. Have you checked that ammo over a chronograph? The results will tell you a lot.

I worked it up myself. I developed it using the chronograph , everything shot around 1.5” at 100 until I got it up over 2800 FPS. Then they tightened up to right under an inch. The thing that gets me is even when they come out at the same speed, I get the low flyer.

I shoot the 200 ELD-X in my 300 WSM at that same velocity, 95 SST in 243 and the 168 A-Max in my 308. In over 2000 rounds sent down range I've not experienced this problem.

Do others experience a random flyer?

Is it only that bullet? Have you tried something like a smk to rule out the shooter?
I ask about the shooter because i find it very easy to screw up a nice group or to screw up a shot here and there,
I shoot 178 eld match out of a 308 win and never experienced this,

190 Sierra Matchkings do not do this in this gun. I was needing a hunting bullet. I may try some Sierra pro hunters, or game kings.
