Fellow THR members...
I have an Australian friend here in London who is going back to Australia with his wife after working several years here in the UK. While he was here I took him down to my range in Richmond and we had a great time, he enjoys shooting.
On his way back to Australia in April he will be visiting Texas. He asked me to find out if there is a range he can go to in the Dallas/Fort Worth area where he can fire a variety of firearms. He has been limited to .22 rifles and .357 carbines here in the UK. He would like to try some handguns and SLRs before he ends up back in Australia where he may not get the opportunity to fire those.

I would be grateful if some of our members in that area could provide me with range details or even better, a friendly contact or two who can accompany him at the range.
I know this guy personally and I can vouch for his responsible nature and respectful demeanor. He expects to pay for the use of any firearms and ammunition that he uses on the day.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

If he's on the north/east side of town, I'd recommend The Bullet Trap in Plano, TX. Look under the rentals tab - they always keep a fair selection available. They're good folk - I shoot there several times a month.

I'd be more than happy to accompany him there if my schedule permits.

Thanks very much, rbernie and dracphelan

I will advise my friend accordingly.
(I am quite jealous also, but I hope to get my fix in Colorado later this year)

I'd happily volunteer, but I'm still legally in limbo in this country - work-permit but no Green Card, so I can't yet own any firearms :(

@ AndyC

When that changes, don't forget that I am your long lost cousin and I need to visit one day :p

Andy - one Friday afternoon, you need to find youself in the vicinity of The Bullet Trap in Plano. I'd be more than happy to let you play with The Arsenal of Democracy. :D

Be sure to read the "rental" policy at The Bullet Trap. They have a 20 round test-fire, and
The test fire special is designed to allow you to shoot 1 gun with a specified amount of ammunition for test purposes. We do not allow other guns or extra ammunition to be purchased and added on to the renters special.

DFW gun range makes you buy the ammo from them (a bit pricey), but doesn't have this limitation.

I've shot at both ranges, and either is nice, but for what your friend is wanting to do, I'm inclined to say DFW gun range will be more enjoyable.

The 'test fire special' is a bundled package of gun and ammo. Their verbage limits the number of rounds you get in the package, and says that you have to pay for each 'test fire special' that you use. It would be unreasonable for folks to think that they can pay one flat fee and shoot all the free ammo and all the rental guns that they want, no?

For a standard rental:

The following is a current list of test fire guns available at the Bullet Trap. Store purchased ammunition must be used in all test fire guns. Your cost to “Try Before you Buy!” $10 for non members and $6 for members.

Ten bucks per gun, and you buy their ammo. Their ammo prices are higher than WallyWorld but not horrid.

Please excuse my misunderstanding. I focused on the section about test-fire and missed the lower text on their website.

Thanks for the thread and the reply notes on the DFW range. I've been down in the area several times, enjoyed the Bullet Trap, but would like to avoid the drive from Dallas. I'll check it out next time down.
