I recently installed a Skinner Peep to replace the original buck horn sight. Also, changed the aperture to the Skinner sight on the .500 Carbine. Targets out at 100 yards. the 46/70 bull is 6 inches across and the bull for the .500 is 7x9 inches. Using 375 gr HCNGC 34gr of LT30 in the 45/70 and 400 grain barns FN 34 gr of H110 in the .500 carbine.

Fun day! How’s the shoulder though? I’m interested in your 500 carbine. I have a single shot in 500 and it’s a monster, I prefer shooting my 500 revolver.

I can put 50-100 rounds through without any shoulder issues as the carbine is heavier than my Henry 45/70. I also have a .500 S&W Magnum Research BFR revolver with a non-ported 7.5" barrel. I shoot it quite often and since I reload it is pretty cheap to shoot. I also can single hand the thing and only weigh 165 and 69 years old. I just love the looks at the range when I bring out the hand cannon.

Oh I get what your trying to say here but the single shot rifle was surprising in the recoil dept, must not weigh near what your does. Single handing my S&W X-Frame is a fun challenge amongst my friends, so much so that no one will accept my challenge anymore. Ever shoot any 440gr Grizzly Cartridge Co branded ammo? They are loaded hot, as in loose primer pockets on the first firing. Those sting a little and is what I use when challenging someone who claims to be a recoil junky.

Yeah I got turned on to big bore hand cannons a couple years back at the range when an older gentleman brought up a BFR in .450 Marlin and goaded me into shooting it. I was a lil apprehensive because I don't have experience with big bore handguns but I wound up impressing the old guy, he said I shot it better the first time than he ever has or ever will. I smacked a 10" gong at 50 yards with it 4 out of 5 times off hand. He told me to anticipate °90 of recoil but I controlled it well, more like °45 of recoil.

Then I got a Henry 45/70 and it shoots like a dream. Smooth, extremely accurate and purty brass...

Which model Henry do you like? I got the brass big boy, I wish I got the side gate but I can deal without it......

I also have a 30/30 in the same model as the 45/70 along with the Military Badged 22 Henry

I once shot a 600 nitro, and it did leave me with bruised shoulder. Shooting a .500 is like shooting a 22 compared to the nitro.

I sure wish I was as tough as you. As I get older I really like 22lr more and more, that’s why I limit myself to 500 S&W.
