Last Spring I installed one of Skinner's replacement rear sights on my Rossi Model 92 .45 Colt big-loop lever action carbine. I have tired of this set-up. The Rossi came factory drilled on the barrel for a scout scope mount. I am going to try it with a scope if I can ever find one of the factory produced mounts, or if nothing else, I have another brand's base that I could have drilled/altered for the purpose.

After drifting-out the Skinner sight, I wondered, "Now, what do I do with you?" On an impulse, I drove out the crappy rear sight on my CZ 452 Scout and found the Skinner to be a perfect fit for the vacated dovetail slot in my Scout's barrel. I wanted the Scout's Weaver Classic Rimfire 2.5-7X28mm for one of my Trainers anyway. I simply loosened the Warne rings, slid the little scope off, and then secured it to the Trainer. No cant. Not surprising given the virtually identical receivers, but pretty sweet, nonetheless.

I carried both the CZ 452 Scout and the CZ 452 Trainer/Special to the range for a sighting-in session this morning. I have two bricks of American Eagle LRN 40 grainers and a brick of American Eagle 38 grain plated hollow points on hand. The Scout had been delivering nice groups with the HPs for several months, so I decided to zero the Scout with the Skinner sight at 25 yards using the HPs. The 40 grain solids were assigned to the Trainer.

Not the best cheek weld, but it ain't bad.

First, I zeroed the Trainer at 50 yards. From the Caldwell Rock BR, I fired successive 5-shot groups until I got most to hit or touch the little black diamond in the middle of one of these 2 inch dots. All of the Trainer's groups were acceptable given a factory triggered and seven-power scoped CZ firing low/mid grade ammo. Here are the first two 5-shot groups:

Next, the work began – time to bench the Scout and get out the Lyman hammer and brass drift:

After tap-dancing too far right, then too far left, I finally found a stopping point with 38 grain hollow points:

As to elevation, this is the lowest revolution of the Skinner's rotating aperture. I tried a group with it at one revolution higher and it actually shot over the bull. This 25 yard group was fired employing a six o'clock hold on what would be the bull's 10-ring (although all I could distinguish was the little orange dot and the entire bull). I floated the orange dot just over the front sight blade. I like a dead-on hold, so this should do good work for me. I put up two red shotgun shell hulls on the target posts at 50 yards and after missing them with the first three shots of a five-shot magazine from the bench, I finally managed to pick them off with the last two cartridges. And, on that note, I packed it all up and headed home.

These American Eagle labeled Federal rimfire ammunitions are sound products.
