I am a new shooter (haven't shot since childhood 3 decades and several states ago). I just purchased a .357 carbine new. An acquaintance that shoots long range competitions invited me to shoot on his private property range. What is the proper etiquette. Do I offer him money? Offer to buy his ammo for the day? Bring my own targets? etc.

i would think (from your discription) the dude is just being a nice guy and inviting you out for some fun. my advice would be bring some cool targets to share, and maybe bring him a gift of some ammo. follow his rules, be polite and turn an aquantance into a gun buddy!

there's no standard, anymore than if someone asked you to dinner.

most guys with private ranges are happy to have someone to shoot with and to show off their toys to.

you should bring your own targets and most important, you should be safe and clean up your mess (don't leave shredded cans/paper, empty ammo boxes, spent brass lying about)

offering money is probably not a good idea for a number of reasons, but a small gift would probably go a long way towards being invited back.
