The Fusilier Complex is the name of a new private shooting range and gun club located about 25 miles northeast of Lafayette, Louisiana, near Arnaudville.
It was formally known as the Hub City Rifle and Pistol Club, of Lafayette, which lost its lease where the club had existed for the last 50+ years. There had been a search on for years, for new range property, because the club could feel the city growing all around it. The old range closed about 1-1/2 years ago when the lease was lost. The property search comittee had looked at many peices of property over the years, all rejected for one reason or another. There was a reward of $5000 offered to any member, in good standing, who submitted a property, which would ultimately be purchased by the club.
Three and one half years ago, I submitted the property which was purchased last October. ($5000 Reward! Sweet! the custom rifle I am having built with a portion of this reward will be the subject of a future topic)
There is much work to be done, and a meeting of the membership (currently around 600) has been called for Saturday, May 31, at 10:00AM, on the grounds of the new property. They are asking for volunteers to help in any way we can to get this new range started. The plan is to build a first rate shooting facility. There is road building to be done, a bridge to be built, berms to construct, bathrooms and a sewage system to install, local police, sherrifs, and politicians to contact in a tri-parish area, etc.
We are a 100% NRA affiliated club.
For more information, please visit www.HCRPC.com
The property is approximately 640 acres, (one square mile) and has been farmland for decades. The farmers contract on the property came up for renewal on January 1st, 2003, and then we had to wait until after winter for better weather to begin work on the new range. Much of it will remain in agricultural use, (which should help offset the note on the property) but, the club will start with about 100 acres to build a shooting range.
There are many "clubs within the club" such as the Shotgun shooters, the High Power Rifle shooters, Pistol Silhoute shooters, Benchrest and Hunter Rifle shooters, .22 Rimfire Benchrest, and Steel Plate shooters. I am exited about this, and hope others of you THR members who are local will check into joining. (Preacherman, this range will be about 1-1/2 hr. drive from Alexandria)
From Baton Rouge-about one hour
From Lafayette-about 35-40 minutes

Keano, I just spotted this - hadn't seen it earlier. Thanks for posting! I must definitely come down sometime and take a look. My participation is hampered by the fact that I work all weekend... penalties of being a pastor, you know! :D

I didn't see any mention of shotgunning in your post - are there plans to add that later?

Thanks again.

Well, I was a member at HCRPC starting in Fall 2000, I left when the range shut down and headed to Barneys. I do miss shooting rifles (Barney's is a 25 yard indoor range), when do you think that the new range will be up?

Preacherman,
Yes, there is a shotgun group within the club.

Bergeron,
Last I heard, they are still shooting (no pun intended :D ) for the end of summer/fall to have a rifle range opened up. I know there have been delays with the rain we've been getting, and with all the red tape which goes along with setting something like this up. Future plans include a pistol range, shotgun range, archery range, along with an additional rifle and pistol range so that there would always be a range open to the general membership even when there is an organized event, match, or tournament going on.

Please visit the website to remain updated. Also, please help spread the word!

iluvG.R.I.T.S,
I've never stepped foot inside Barney's. There's no special reason, its just that most of my weapons are rifles, or hunting revolvers (.44 Mag.), not allowed at indoor ranges. Even if these guns were allowed, I think I would tire quickly of being limited to 25 yds.

I'm in Houston now, but grew up in Lafayette and make it home to visit family 3-4 times a year. Would love to have a good place to shoot when I am in town. Y'all going to let visitors in? :D

No4Mk1,

Members are allowed to bring guests. In the past, this is how it worked: The entrance to the property is gated. Each member recieves a key for the gate, along with a copy of the club rules, and membership card, upon signing up. Each year, in August, membership renewals come due. New keys go out in the mail to members who sent in their renewals. September 1st, the lock is changed.
I guess the only way a visitor could get in is with a member.
Once the new range is open, contact me when you are coming around. Maybe I'll be free to take you. As the new range will be just outside the town where I grew up, and where my parents and relatives live, I plan on going that way even more often.

Well I'll bring the ammo if you open the gate! :D

I'll drop you a PM next time I am headed that way and see if we can connect for a little paper punching!

Finally, it's here

The new range will officially open this Saturday, June 19, 2004 at 10:00AM. For now there will be a 300yd. rifle range with approximately 24 benches. The 50yd. pistol range will follow with a grant from Friends of NRA. Dues will be $100 per year, with a one time $100 initiation fee. NRA membership is mandatory, as we are a 100% NRA Affiliated club.

Just in time for Father's Day!! Glad to hear it. keano44, I'll be sure to give you a shout if I get a chance next time I'm in Lafayette! You also have a standing invite to my range next time you hit Houston.

Addendum to "keano44" messages:

Hub City Rifle & Pistol Club leases the range from Fusilier Complex, a non-profit corporation that actually owns the land and ranges.

The ranges are about 5 miles east northeast of Arnaudville, LA, near the settlement of Portage, LA. Part of the property, but not the ranges, is actually in the Atchafalaya flood basin.

We have a 300-METER rifle range with 30 firing benches on a 24' x 220' concrete slab. We do not have a cover yet so bring your tarp or popup awning.

The separate 75-yard pistol range has a horseshoe-shaped berm, does not have a concrete slab yet, but is useable.

Members may bring two guests. Shooting is from sunrise to sunset. No fully automatic weapons, no .50BMG (Too heavy for the impact berm).

ALL members are required to attend a mandatory range safety meeting and have a special pass card issued to them before shooting. We conduct safety orientation and meetings each Saturday at 10:00 and they take about 1/2 hour.

If you want an application, email me here and I can send you an Adobe file with an application, range rules, and a map.

Regards,

7.62mm

Club Members:

Due to the rain we have already had and the expected weather, we have scrubbed the required Range Safety Class for 10:00 AM Saturday, June 26, 2004.

The next class will be on Saturday, July 3, 2004 at 10:00 AM, Good Lord willing and the creek don't rise!

If you cannot make a Saturday class, let me know via email or private message and maybe we can arrange a class in Lafayette, LA for the class.

Stay well, stay safe, stay armed. Yorktown. (Courtesy of the late Harpseal of Freerepublic. com)
