I am wanting to buy a rangefinder. I am considering a leupold, I see too many refurbished nikon & bushnell rangefinders for sale, so I assume them to be junk. Does anyone else have one? Any recomendations? Any brand/model to avoid? thanks

I have a luppy, one that today would an older 1000 yard model with angle /distance correction. Son-in-law has it right now for achery practice. Been a good one , for sure. Only thing I would say is if buy'n one for all purpose range finding buy the longest distance one you can swing. The reflective distance on deer for this one is just short of 600 yards. It will do right to 1000 yards on some highly reflective but not allways on trees ,brush or deer at a distance that matters. IWorks great for bow use on the angles but has a bit to much info for just that. Mine is 5 years old

I bought a Bushnell 800 some years back that has always worked just fine. I check it from time to time at my 100-yard and 500-yard targets, and so far, so good. I'm happy with it.

I bought a Leica. It was most useful before the hunt, walking around with it, picking an object, guessing the range, and then using the range-finder to see how close I was. Eventually got pretty good at ranging things within 200 yards.

Part of the question here is whether you'll be ranging between 50 and 200 yds, or 500 to 800 yards, or somewhere in between.

I have used a Bushnell 1500 for going on yrs (if my toy memory serves me) which works like a champ and is accurate. Definitely not junk and I would recommend

Real handy for roughing in corners on 40-acre tracts. They're a quarter-mile on a side. An oil drain-pan on a 1x4 reflects from around a thousand yards. I've been able to range on big rocks and greasewood shrubs. It's about 880 yards from my house to a buddy's by Bushnell, which agrees with the topo map.

Most rangefinders in your price range are going to be made in china, and for me, that means an item akin to fecal matter. I've been where you are.

I think if I was going to get one in your situation, I'd try and find a used Leica on ebay- or nothing.

Good luck

Waffentomas, Dont think he had a price range, but I like your akinning to example. I couldnt open your link....more than likely my IE acting up again

I've had a Bushnell 400 since they came out. It still works fine. Why would it be junk? It will range on a good reflective target to shy of 400 yards, but 400 is my shooting limit, self imposed. I want another, one that takes into account angle of shot, though, and would like one of the ones I've seen advertize that have an archery specific as well as a rifle mode. I'll get one eventually, i guess, but not because my old Bushnell is broke or anything.
