Quick range report in case anyone is considering either of these two pistols.
The gun show was in town this weekend so I figured it was my duty as an American to do my part in stimulating the economy 5 ended up coming home with these two after making the rounds.
Kahr K40: Paid $540. All steel version w/ 6 rnd magazine. Although all steel, I much preferred the K40 to the CW40 after handling them both. It is still quite thin and compact and I have not had any trouble carrying it so far as my CCW. The grip is very comfy hogue style rubber. Trigger pull is a little long but EXCELLENT. Very nice feel to it. Fit and finish also excellent. I fired 200 rnds of .40 155 grain jhp (federal and winchester) through the Kahr in approximately 1 hour. No jams, hiccups or any other stoppages. Make no mistake, it is quite a handful with the 155 jhp rnds but still very manageable. The sights are excellent and I was actually more accurate with the compact Kahr than with the full size M&P. On the down side, I did notice when I got home to clean it that one of the grip screws came loose during shooting and is MIA. I emailed Kahr today and requested a new one so we will see...Overall I am extremely happy with this one.
S&W M&P40: Paid $529 and came with the $50 rebate + 2 free mags offer. This is the full size version and was recommended by many on a previous thread "lightest recoiling 40's". Came with 3 different sized backstraps and is very comfy in the hand. Fit and finish also excellent. Same drill--ran 200 rnds of 155 grain jhp (federal/winchester) rnds in a bout an hour. I really cranked the rounds out of this one with its 15 rnd mags. It got very hot but never failed to feed or had any other problems. My thanks to those who recommended it. It is a very light recoiling pistol for a .40 cal. Very easy to reacquire target in rapid fire drills. Good sights but for some reason I could not shoot it as accurately as the Kahr... Still, this was me and no fault of the pistol. This is a top notch duty weapon in my opinion. I actually prefer it to my HK P2000 .40. It is easier for me to shoot well and more comfortable in the hand to me. Overall, very happy and a keeper.
Hope this helps to anyone in the market. And if my girlfriend should see this, remember I was only doing my part for the economy!
