I just got back from my 2nd trip to the range with Kahr PM45. I went with my PD partner who wanted to test fire the PM45. Together we put 2 boxes of 230 Gr. RN Blazer Brass, 50 rnds of reloaded 230 Gr. Speer Gold Dot JHP and 50 Rnds of reloaded Berrys 230 Gr.RN.
Towards the end of the shoot I had 1 FTF and 1 FTE (both reloads) I believe the 2 malfunctions were probably do to the weapon getting pretty gunked up and needing a lube job. I just got back into reloading after an 11 year absence and was eager to see how my reloads preformed in my not yet broken in Kahr.

I also fired 50 rnds. of 40 cal.180 Gr. truncated point bullet reloads through my Glock mod.23 duty weapon with no malfunctions
50 rnds of 95 gr. Hornady JHP reloads through my 9mm Makarov and
50 rnds. 158 gr. lead semi-wadcutter hollow points reloads through
my S&W 442.
I still re-learning my powders and used Unique for all my reloads.

Even a bad day at range is better then a good day at work.

Is your PM 45 past its break in period? If so, how many total rounds have you fired through it?

I ask only because if you are trying to test real reliability maybe it's too early to be shooting reloads through it? Just a suggestion.

Keep the reports up, I'm really interested in this weapon.

Thanks!

Prior to todays shoot, I had around 150-175 rounds through the pistol. Today prior to shooting my reloads we put 100 rds. of factory ammo through the pistol with no malfunctions. Kahr calls for a 200 round breakin. I tend to blame the gunk build up and my reloads for the 2 malfunctions.

reloads

I would tend to look at the reloads first before doing anything to the gun. If it does OK with factory stuff, and not reloads,--WELL:banghead::banghead:

Recoil?

Thanks for the report. I am interested in the PM45. I'm wondering how bad the recoil was. Can you give me a feel for that?

I'm more concerned with how much velocity loss happens with that short barrel.

Sub 4" .45ACP seems to come up marginal in penetration in the tests I've seen.

I had been thinking of getting the PM45 when it came out, but after seeing some gel tests with other short barreled .45s I'm staying with my PM40 for now.

I believe that the 160 grain Corbon DPX, which isn't +P, is the answer for the short barrel, compact .45 ACP pistol:

As for the malfunctioning compact pistol, well, I think that is the nature of the beast. Reliability in pistols smaller than "Commander" size are notorious for malfunctioning...in spite of all the, "mine has been reliable as dirt for over 150,000 round" recitals.
