So After 2 trips to the range i came up with an OUTSTANDING load for 45acp and am still working on the 9mm load.

I used for 9mm
-Winchester primers
-Mixed tumbled brass
-very light lee factory crimp
-Rem. 124gr fmj
-Glock 34

Between the 2 powders the best grouping's i found were with 4.7 gr. of Win231, on the first trip to the range. in my eyes they had the equivalent recoil of WWB.Which leads me to want to tone it down by -0.01 gr. to get a lesser recoil for target shooting paper. Maybe someone has had similar experience's?

I used for 45ACP
-Winchester primers
-mixed tumbled brass
-light lee crimp
-MBC 45 200 gr cast swc IDP #1
-5'' 1911

Between the 2 powders Win231 shot better groups for me once again. The magic number seemed to be 5.5gr of w231. And let me tell you, i can shoot through the same hole all day with this load. What a great find.

With my new .357 ill have to work up some loads next week for 38 & 357 with w231 & 2400...

win 231 seems to be one of the best all around pistol powders... how does it meter? As I have never used it

Ive only used win 231-TG-25 yr old unique so my opinion may be jaded, but my pro auto disk will throw it within +/- .01 gr with w231 while TG & unique varied +/- 0.02

I believe you really mean within a tenth of a grain instead of a hundredth of a grain? I'll give my pro auto disk a half a grain over or under desired. Same in your OP.

petrey10 - So far as metering is concerned, 231 is one of the more consistent metering powders.

HP-38/Win 231 is a great powder. It is the most accurate in my 9mm, 40 S&W, and 45 ACP. And, I have tried AutoComp, WSF, and PowerPistol. Haven't tried TightGroup yet.

I ordered some new things this week so ill have to redo all my research. maybe you guys have a favorite load you'd like to share
-125 gr small ball from Missouri bullet company with win231(Glock 34)
-158 gr. 38. match from Missouri bullet company with win231(GP 100)
-158 gr .357 action from Missouri bullet company with 2400(GP 100)

5.0 gr of 231 behind a 200 cast SWC shoots good in my 45 1911. And the same 5 gr in 357 cases using Missouri's 158 Action bullet does well in my M-19.

I'm new to W231/HP-38 but so far so good.
Seems to meter very well in my manually operated 10X.
5.0 grains under a 200 grain plated SWC in .45acp makes my day (punk).

I'll stick with SR 7625 for 9mm though.

231 is an excellent powder. I have been using clays/bullseye/unique up until recently because 231 was hard to find.. But now that i can get my hands on it again, it's all i use.

Your 9mm load is above the max in the W-W 14th edition manual - max is listed as 4.5 gr.- 1050fps-32700psi. Your 45 ACP load is the max listed in the same manual for the 200 gr. LSWC.

-i have 5.6 as a max from hodgdon's site & 5.5 max in my lee manuel for 45 acp. 200gr cast swc

-i have 4.8 as a max from hodg's site & 4.5 in my lee book. Funny thing is anything less wouldn't cycle correctly.
--------------------------------

-The good news is i only ordered 100 of these remington 124gr fmj's. I have 1000 "125 gr Missouri bullet company small ball 9mm cast round nose" that should be here around 3pm. I have to find a formula for them. What does your manuel call for those?

- from lee, i see 3.3 start load & 4.0 max of win 231 (im using 124 gr lead bullet reference, i dont show w231 for 125 gr lead bullet) and NO data for tightgroup!!!.

> But from hodg's site they call for 3.6-4.0 of T.G & 3.9-4.4 of W231. (125 GR. LCN ) , Pretty big difference. I'm going to have to rustle up some more data before i can load these.

It looks like he's within Hodgdon specs as long as the seating depth is correct. Hodgdon lists same charge weights for HP38 and 231. Some of the manuals list lower charge weights for 231, compared to HP38.

Do some reading on lead bullets in factory Glock barrels before loading and testing these. Most people advise against shooting lead in factory Glock barrels. I would tell you why or why not to do it, but I don't know.
