I loaded some 40 S&W rounds with Ranier 180 grn FP bullets and got less than impressive results. Tried Accurate no.5 with a range of powder charges and accross the board the accuracy was just not very good. Does anyone have experience with the Ranier leadsafe rounds in 40 S&W? If so, how much crimp do you apply?

I use Rainer all the time; they are my favorite bullet of choice. Here is what I have been using with good success:
BULLET PRIMER POWDER LOAD
135gr. JHP CCI 500 UNIQUE 7.0gr.
165gr. JHP CCI 500 UNIQUE 6.0gr.

If so, how much crimp do you apply?
You should just taper crimp them like any other straight wall pistol case & bullet.
Just enough to straighten out the case mouth flair.

Mouth of the .40 S&W should measure .423" after crimping.

I like the 155gr and 165gr rainier plated. It is easier for me to find a accurate load with the 155gr than the 165gr, its been a struggle but have had great results.
155gr likes 6.7gr of AA5, 5.7gr of universal, 5.3gr of win231
165gr likes 5.2gr of universal and 5.0gr of win 231

I use the same load as Idano, 165 grain Ranier with 6 grains of Unique, accurate, soft shooter.:) The only difference is I use Winchester primers.

i have had great results with 165 gr rainiers over 7.0-7.2 gr of HS6. clean with good pressures

I have a standard load of 5.7gr. WSF under a 165gr. Rainier FP 1.130". Winchester brass CCI500. Not full bore but works well and is clean. You might try about 5.2gr. with your 180gr bullets. I've gone up to 6.1 but with full reliability from the lighter load, I don't need to batter the gun. I'm shooting out of a Sig P239 with a 3.6" bbl so I'm not expecting match accuracy.

I'm not shooting much .40 anymore and have a stockpile...and I'm out of WSF with no real need to replace since Power Pistol works so well.
