Just got Ransom Rest, unused, from a friend, traded S&W M29-5, 6 inch, like new. Will use it to develop loads in 45 Bisley. The bullet is SWC 325 grains, powder is H4227, started with 20 grains of powder. Yes, recoil is there. But few weeks earlier, 8.5 grains of Unique behind Lyman 429421 in M29-5, factory wood stocks, made blister after just 40 rounds. Didn’t pay any attention and suddenly, the blister was there. As for Bisley, 25 rounds resulted in just very light wrist sore, no blisters, no even skin rash. This Bisley grip is superb for heavy loads, revolver rolls up 45 degrees, didn’t get hit by trigger guard (friend with chubbier fingers claims that he did a bit), nor experienced trigger biting as some claimed. Anyhow, I realized that to shoot 100+ loads in a single day is more than I wanted to endure, and started thinking of Ransom Rest. I knew that my friend has it, and when I realized he got glued on that M29-5, I asked, more for a joke, for the rest. He agreed in a second. It comes with windage base, inserts for Super Blackhawk, Colt Frontier and 2 sets for Blackhawk. Bag of silica gel still attached. Thinking of adding some kind of protractor to compare recoil for different loads.

Any advice regarding usage of this rest, how much adjustment screw has to be torqued for the load I mentioned? Should I leave it as it came from the factory?

Now, I am looking for Ransom Rest inserts for Bisley, will trade Blackhawk or Colt Frontier inserts, as mentioned, never been used. Thanks, Onty, [email protected]
