Ok, you are probably aware, that with all its quirks, my RAP is becoming one of my favorite handguns.

But boy is it heavy.

There were some posts earlier about the weight of the pistol compared to the Kahr K series handguns...which are also a fistfull of steel.

Well, I got out my digital scale, and did some weighing.

It is indeed heavier than the Kahr, and it is worse than we thought.

Here are the weights. bullets are Speer gold dot +P 124 gr HP
RAP 401 9mm
gun only, no mag 29.9 oz
gun, empty mag 32.2 oz
gun, full mag 35.7 oz
gun, full mag+1 36.2 oz (carry weight)

The Kahr website shows the weight of the K series handguns to be:

gun only 23.1 oz
mag 1.9 oz

this puts the gun+empty mag weight at:
25 oz

So that is a full 7.2 oz difference between the RAP and the Kahr. Wow....:what:

The Kahr weights were taken off the Kahr website, so I cannot affirm thier accuracy....But I know my measurements are accurate.

I'm willing to put up with a few more ounces to have a durable carry gun. The RAP is DA/SA not DAO like the Kahr. That adds a tiny bit of weight doesn't it? My pocket gun weighs 28oz unloaded!

Nope, sorry.

try again.:neener: The pics of the RAP are decieving arent they?

Here is a pic of the Rap on top of a Khar K

The RAP 401 and the Kahr T9 are both 6.5" in LOA (K9 = 6".) The Height of the T9 is less than 1/2" than the K9 which most of which could be that extended mag pad on the K9. I couldn't find a spec on the height of the RAP 401 but the Kahr T9 = 4.95" and the K9 = 4.5" (not including mag pad of course.)

The T9 may be closer than you think :D

I dont own any Kahrs....but the pictures I have seen suggest the K is the roughly the same size...even a Kahr K holster I had found fit my RAP almost perfect.

But the T series look SO BIG! But like I said before, these internet pictures sure are decieving.

I definately don't like how the Kahr's magazine sticks out like that. It holds the same amount of ammo as the RAP? The Kahr does look slimmer though and I think it would point better.

Both are stellar little guns.......

the Kahr K series for those who've never held/shot/owned/carried one......are the most versatile gun ergonomically Ive ever held......better than CZ's and BHP's.

I have huge paws and needless to say, my at the time, 7 year old son both found shooting my K40 very comfortable to hold and shoot accurately.

How many guns can you say that about? It IS that perfect of a grip design and application.

The mag extension on the bottom of the Kahr is one of the reasons for this characteristic.

The RAP is close in comfiness........very close.

As far as the comparison....its the same ht as the K series and length as the T series....the width is slightly wider due to levers, bells and whistles..........

Shoot well

The extra weight you feel...

is the money in your pocket. You can buy two or three RAP's for the price of one Kahr. Or let's say you could buy them before they became availablity zero.

Mephisto...I am going to....I havent yet....I need to take my qualification downtown, and have the RAP put on my CCW...It may become my primary.

I have carried it around the house though...and it is very easy to carry, with a good belt, and a close fitting pancake holster just behind the hip.

Andrew, use the safety lever down to decock, up to safety.

I dont keep it on safety though, just decocked...The DA trigger pull is safety enough.
