Rapid Polish

Not necessary at all, but it will speed things up and get the brass shinier.

I use cheap Walmart corn cob pet bedding it works well for 30 Cal. rifle and any straight wall pistol cases not good for smaller neck sizes because of the media size,I add two cap fulls of Nu Finish cars polish to my cob media stir it in good and pour it in the tumbler.

I have run about 1k of cases of all sorts through that batch of media I have never had brass come out that shiny before with about two hours tumbling. I even threw some old Bulgarian 54r brass I had pulled bullets from as a test and it came out like factory new brass.

I also like to add 1/2 dryer sheet, cut up into 1/4's. It seems to give the brass a bit of lube to help resizing and just makes everything cleaner, it is probably all in my head, but I am going to keep doing it. Any minute now (well Ok, I am in Iraq so with the time difference, in about 10 hours) someone is going to start the "Don't use polish with ammonia in it" discussion!

Additives can help clean & (I think) help protect the brass. I find the media dust seem to not stick to slicker cases.
Additives can also be a bad thing. As the previous poster warned about ammonia. I have tried many things I've read on the net. I still do experiment. Just figure out a system that is repeatable. If you put cases into too wet a media they can clog up. Too much additive is a problem. Most guys add the liquid to media, let run for 5-10 minutes then add brass.

The Nu Finish seem to put a protective finish on the brass as well as keep any dust down I haven't notice any dust on the lid of my vib tumbler the last five times I used it,I also know about the dryer sheet deal and have done that with Walnut lizard bedding I got at pet smart and it works well to keep down the dust.

THANK YOU for your service to this country,we all pray and look forward to the day you all can come home.

Yeah LT, the thought of ammonia does get some folks panties in a wad, don't it! :)

For those who may be confused about ammonia, it IS harmful to brass IF, and only if, it's in contact in it's liquid state. Ammonia is added to a few polishes as a cleaning agent, it really takes off a lot of surface "dirt", but it's not part of the polish, as such, nor is a polish with ammonia a death sentence to brass if used properly.

Like any other liquid, ammonia evaporates. Pretty quickly in fact. When it has evaported it's gone, none is left, nada. SO we can add any polish we wish to our tumbler media, including the dreaded Brasso or others with the ammonia smell. Let it run it few hours to mix it well, then allow it to sit over night so the liquid ammonia can evaporate. If the urine smell is gone it's quite safe to use.

On the other hand, metal polish is metal polish, it all works the same, there is no magic in ANY brand. Get something from Dillion at high cost if you feel more comfortable with that or get some cheap auto polish at Walmart. Add a capfull from time to time and all will be well in shiney brass land. Seems most folks use far more than is needed.

Add two-three 3" squares of loose weave paper, facal tissue, towels or dryer sheet, in each load. All will work to trap loose particles of fine stuff and help reduce dust.

Adding an ounce or so of mineral spirits to each load will clean the metal surface very well and it also helps hold down dusting. Mineral spirits will also evaporate pretty fast so it has to be re-added when you want it to work.

Thanks for your service LT, and for all those around you too. Keep your heads down and come home safe, you are in our prayers each day.

I use Dillon polish, just because I have some left over. I have also used Brasso, despite the claims from some that it causes brass to go bad. I just never had a problem with the small amount of Brasso I used.

I add mineral oil sometimes as well. It gives the brass just a hint of lube. makes them easier to size. Mostly I do pistol calibers using carbide dies anyway, but it still sizes easier with a little lube.

I put a paper towel cut or torn into 4 or 5 strips in the tumbler as well. It traps a lot of dirt.

add polish, add USED dryer sheets (you won't believe how much crus they gather), add nufinish car wax, use GOOD media. you wont be disapointed. there is a saying that is very true, buy quality when you can, you will not be disapointed.

lizard bedding, nufinish and dryer sheets great combination.
That's what I use. Haven't changed out the media in well over a year and still get clean brass.

I only use used dryer sheets. Work great. (My wife would kick my behind if I stole her new ones) :)

I always use a new dryer sheet.

I have never heard that you should use a "used" one.

This has me curious also.

"It makes your ammo smell all Girly" Thats funny.

Never used a new one either, collects the dust better when the fibers of the material have been broken up so to speak.

You will get some kind of coating on the inside of the tumbler with a new one, you won't with a used one. That is what I was told and haven't tried a new one for that reason. It was explained to me that whatever is on there that comes off in the dryer will also come off in the tumbler. Maybe, maybe not, but I'll stick to used ones just in case.
