Welcome to THR.

Blue Book of Gun Values, 29th ed., places value of a 70% gun at $350. There were over 1,024,000 Model 1897s manfactured between 1897-1957. Hope that helps.

While obviuosly a well used ,and most likely much loved ,gun ,your grandpa's 97 is still a desirable gun for a shooter (no magnum loads please) and as such is in the $250 to $350 value range depending on who you talk to, and what area of the country you sell it in.

Your 97 is a takedown model which is more common than the solid frame. So long as the gun locks together tightly, you are okay. Your gun is not in pristine condition. It has no collector value. If the barrel is not seriously pitted, the gun is worth around $350. given its condition. If the lock up isn't very tight or if the barrels are badly pitted, then the value is around $250. I have seen very nice examples lately go for $500. I have three 97's. They are great shotguns.
