Just purchased a RCBS Uniflow Powder Measure. It states in the instruction be be sure to clean the unit to get rid of the rust prevention or the powder will stick. What do you safely clean it with?

I used "Kaboom", then later thought it was probably not the best name for a product used around powder.

Any number of household thinners will do the job. Lube it afterward with powdered graphite from the lock & key department of Home Depot.

If it doesn't have a baffle, then cut up a can and make One Of These. It will really help.

Here's a video by RCBS...it shows how to do it and what the use.

This is good but I would further. He doesn't clean the measure bore in the cylinder where the powder drops into during measuring. I would hose the entire cylinder down with his spray cleaner or any commercially available spray carburetor cleaner. Also the chute at the bottom of the hopper needs to be cleaned as well. Include the adjustment lead screw in the cleaning regiment.

Pretty much any bathroom/Kitchen cleaner product will work.

Otherwise any degreaser/solvent in the garage will work too.

Just make sure it's completely dry & at room temperature before putting it back together & filling with powder.
You don't want any moisture in there.

Just be careful certain cleaners may damage the plastic hopper. gun scrubber or brake cleaner (the TCE kind) work well on the metal.

Thanks guys for the info. As always this is becoming my go to place for information.

i like to use brake parts cleaner for jobs like this. it will completely evaporate and won't leave any film behind. that's why you use it to clean the rust preventative coating off new brake rotors and drums.

ittuna, another item that will help all the powder to drop is that when you cycle the powder drop handle you raise it slightly and tap it back down about two times and it will jar any loose grains that are being held either by static electricity or whatever. Also, when using elongated powder grains the screw in funnel tube where the powder comes out can be adjusted either in or out to aid in the flow of the powder. BW
