So Midsouth has the RCBS Piggyback progressive unit which mounts to an RCBS single stage press and turns it into a progressive for a bit over $400. Or I can buy an entire Dillon RL550 (less dies) for $440.

For the extra $40 I get a separate stand-alone press and a new powder measure. How is this not a much better deal?

Am I overlooking something here?

Nope, you aren't missing anything :).

I have been using RCBS equipment since the late 80s and bought a Dillon 550 instead of a Piggyback. Better engineering and much less finicky than the Piggyback conversion.

Spend the extra $40 and get a RL550b. You will never regret it. Check out Brian Enos's web site at www.brianenos.com. His prices are the same as others, but shipping is free when you spend $400 or more. I love my RL550b. It has been flawless for 4000+ rounds now.

I like my 550 a lot. Pretty good press. I've made a lot of good ammo on it. You will end up spending a lot of money though. You can use one tool head and keep switching out the dies etc, but I ended up getting a bunch of different tool heads and have got another powder measure to use for rifle. I am really happy with the press.

Greetings
Bought my first 550 in 1988 and have no complaints. Dillon will stand by thier products and give you all the help you need to have a great machine that works right.
