I have used one for 40 years.

I don't know if your Lee press with have enough frame clearance behind the ram for the case stripper to fit over the ram.
Or a level deck around the ram for it to push against.

Some presses don't.

could i just pull them out? or are they stuck pretty good? spring break is coming up this following week and i plan on being productive. trying to get all my orders in by the end of this week. i have about 1500 223 cases that need to be swaged and trimmed.

the chd4 swager looks very promising. they list 20mm, 50 bmg and 300 blackout (which is 223)... but it's all based on the top shell holder that holds the case in place. what if you have some 30-06 or 308 win you have to swage? there seems to be some sort of wire pin... maybe it's one shell holder fit's most?

wondering if the top shell holder is caliber specific? just emailed them.

No.
The die body screws in your press and you put your own shell holder in it for whatever caliber you are swaging..

ok now that makes more sense. for the price, i might just have to give them a try.

wow that was some fast email response from dave (the owner of CH4D). looks like a standard shell holder will go there and i believe the threads will also fit the lee.

I go to YouTube to see reloading tools in action. There are some decent videos of the ch4d swager in action.

I was disappointed when I couldn't find a video of the ch4d 444 H press in action. That thing looks interesting.

I also look to youtube for help videos on growing my tomatoes. It's how I reload my belly.

looks like they have been busy. their site is not up yet for online orders so i called them. no one answered so I emailed them about what i wanted. hopefully they still have some in stock or else i might just go to recobs the following week and pick up the rcbs one.

For using the RCBS on a LEE press you need to call RCBS and they will send you a bigger shell stripper to work on those presses.

I have the orginal RCBS and it is the only RCBS product I have been disappointed with. To much effort.

Also bought the CH4D which works well but I still prefer to just ream the primer pocket. Chuck a Hornady hand reamer in the drill and go to town. Way faster and easier for me.

Interesting, but I'm not sure how I feel about the case rim being the point of resistance for the seating force. With the RCBS unit there's a rod that bears agains the case web that the swaging punch acts against. I wonder about deforming case rims...but I suppose if that were a problem they wouldn't still be selling these.

A fellow with access to a metal lathe could probably make one of those fairly easy.

I have had this (or a very similar) RCBS swaging set for a number of years. I have used it for both LP (mostly .30-06) and SP (mostly .223) cases. It works very well. It's good design, because the internal rod bears directly above the swaging device, so the forces tend to be very much in line, no force that I can detect on the rim. The "cup" merely serves to "eject" the swage device from the case (or vice-versa, depending on your point of view).

NB: I don't necessarily think this device obviates the need to chamfer the primer pocket a bit, depends on the cases.

Russellc, did you order the same thing? I'll give them another call in a few days if there is no email response.

I have been using the RCBS Primer Pocket Swager for a long time and I think it's fast and easy. There is no reason to spend $100 on a bench Swager IMO.

I thought I did, they took all my info and credit card info, I hope it was them! But I have not seen it billed or received any info concerning shipping. I kind of got the feeling its a small outfit and it might take a min. or two. I may call on Monday if I havent heard anything. I'll post when it arrives and how it performs...thinking all will be well. Got a gun show coming up and there is always a guy with LC brass, cleaned and polished, but not deprimed.

I can usually get mixed headstamp from him as well, mostly Remington, but a lot of LC and other military crimped primer stuff. I need something to deal with it, this was cheaper and looked a similar operation than the RCBS, Dillon, and other "press" type crimp removers.

The work this swager does is wonderful and I've always sworn that you use a swager for swaging and a blade for hacking things up.
You have to have a little bit of clean frame base surrounding the ram at rest for the stripper sit. Also, it can be a little bit of a pain hunting for the case neck hole up in the die while blind but it does a terrific job.

CH4D is GTG. Their swager is the fastest I've ever used. You can go through 1000 cases in a couple hours easy. You will ruin a couple cases until you get it set up properly. Once it is properly adjusted you can go through cases as fast as you can swap them out in the shell holder. It only requires an inch or so of press handle movement-NOT full stroke like others.

When adjusting you DO NOT need to completely bottom the swaging ram out in the primer pocket. This will keep you from pulling the rims off cases. I have found that some shell holders fit tighter than others and a tighter fit is better in this case.

MTRMN has got it right, I have been using this swager for years and you just need to have the ram kiss the pocket edges. People that rip the rim off or damage cases are not setting up properly and over working the pocket. Just try to remember that you are just pushing back the military crimp not trying to form a case and go easy...you should be able to crank through hundreds of cases an hour if you are just reforming the primer pocket. If you are bottoming out or feeling resistance pulling the ram back out then your are likely over doing it....Do a few and check by priming a couple of cases, you will be surprised by how little you need to do to just remove crimp on primer pocket....
