Setting up a new RCBS (6hole) Turret Press and was wondering about using the RCBS Uniflow Powder Measure in one of the 6 holes of the turret head

(at the present time, I'm only loading .45acp with the Press, so I have the "room" to screw the Uniflow into one of the holes and mount it)

Pro's?

Con's?

Unless it is set up as a case-activated powder drop, what would be the benefit?
All you would be doing is making the press your powder measure stand.
I always kept my "manual" measure in a stand just to the left of the press. When I dropped the charge, I would inspect and then seat a bullet.

The only problem I have had is with the primer tube. The uniflow will clear if it is turned to point to the inside. I use the case activated linkage. I also got tired of having to take the measure out to empty the powder every night and put in a quick-change cylinder with a drain tube.

Checked that at the shop where I got it, they had the Turret Press set up (without the Uniflow Power Measure) so we properly attached it and you're right, it "clears" if positioned correctly.

I was thinking of other things I've read regarding Powder Measures and about the "disadvantages/hinderences" of powder in the hopper being "jostled, moved, and vibrated" so much that it may cause "compacting" or other unwanted issues.....
(Indeed, I've read HERE on THR that some like to keep the PowderMeasure AWAY from the "movement" of the press to help insure more accurate, consistent, and reliable loads)

....but then again, I don't plan on reloading 1000's of rounds at a time... maybe 100 in an evening - then remove the powder/hopper and roll my "portable" reloading module back into the closet out of the way until next time -

More input?

Flames? Compliments?

Anyone? Anyone? Anyone? - Ferris?????

:)

I would worry about the movement resulting in less accurate powder drops.

On my RCBS4x4 it takes a decent number of press cycles to get the throws consistent just from the vibration in the press.

Moving the measure on a turret would likely make the problem even worse.

I can't speak to the RCBS turret, however, I used a Uniflo on a my Lyman AA Turret for years whipping it around as I loaded the cartridge. I used it enough that I actually have grooved the cast iron tool head where the measure handle hit the head!!

I can't calculate how many rounds that was but I loaded everything on it for years before i got a Dillon 300. The loads choreographed well. I never had accuracy problems so I guess all that jostling just packed things consistently.

I can't speak directly to the question at hand, but I have used a uniflow for about 30 years.

I have found in order to get uniform powder drops the uniflow needs to be on a stable plateform. Even a person has to be uniform in the way they operate the throw. IMHO, mounting a Uniflow or any other powder throw on the press is a bad idea. Having said this, I do mount my uniflow on my press but only powder cases as a step. If I use the press handle then I must weigh the next few throws. For Pistol I weigh every tenth throw anyways.
