re-doing my carry... input appreciated

i work in a professional environment and wear a suit about 20% of the time, and a tucked-in button down shirt w/ tie the other 80% of the time. my normal carry-piece is currently a smith j-frame in an iwb galco holster. it has done pretty well for me until recently.

one of the girls asked me 'what is that on your side?' - she had noticed the clip to the belt, and then noticed, presumably, the bulge from the cylinder.

so i went gun shopping last night and came across some kahrs. i am thinking of switching over to one of the kahrs (probably a 40, but chambering isn't important at this time).

is there a carry system that will disappear better than my j-frame/galco set up? will a kahr pm-series conceal as well as a kahr cw-series? thinking of switching to an auto because they are a little thinner than a revolver.

looking for a little help, here. thanks for your input!
 
I work in a similar environment, only my office would likely prove intolerant of CCW. For that reason, I off-body carry in a day planner. It is simply far less likely to get 'outed' than any IWB setup.

And, no - I have never left my day planned behind or lost track of it. It's really not hard to keep up with.
 
Well, the easy answer would be for you to leave your coat on most of the time. No, okay. You realize that cylinder bulge will always be a factor. Choosing a Kahr or any other compact, perhaps a slim 9mm are a good choice for your IWB carry. For me, since I'm not too fond of IWB, I'd carry a lghtweight.380 pistol in my SS pocket and leave the keys/change in your other. That will work....:)
 
Rohrbaugh R9 is the gun you seek. It will disappear in a pocket. IWB, or in a Smart Carry rig.:rolleyes:
 
I wear loose-fitting pants with adequately sized pockets and use a pocket holster for my J-frame and PM9.

I find the J-frame carries easier than the PM9 that way and the PM9 carries easier on the belt.
 
Is that a gun....? or are you just happy to see me? Just kidding, I would not change a thing. Did she call you out? Was there any to say " it is my GPS" or some of the sort. Are you in a no print state? If you want to buy another then go ahead, but Id choose a revlover over a compact 9mm or .380 auto any day of the week. Is it a problem in your AO for your co workers to know you are CCW?
 
Get a good ankle holster for your j-frame. I used to carry a P3AT in the waist band of my scrubs but switched to a j-frame in a Cobra Gunskin ankle holster. No trouble keeping it hidden and no issues like you ran into. It'd be a lot cheaper than buying another, unless you just want another one. If that's the case I like my CW9 and it is easily concealed but the PM series is smaller and lighter than the CW. Of course, they cost more too.

+ 10. Ankle holsters are just stinkin cool man.
 
Ankle holsters are great... until you need your gun in a hurry. Think about it in a "stick-up" situation. "Excuse me violent criminal, I would like to tie my shoe."
 
-10 on the ankle holster. Truly a bad idea for self-defense.

I recently bought a Rohrbaugh R9S Stealth, and it's immediately become my favorite "deep conceal" pistol.
If you can't conceal the R9, you're naked.

no, there really wasn't. i used to carry a blackberry on my belt, but no longer do, and i don't have anything else on my belt.

why is that? if it is merely for chambering, the gun will most likely be chambered to 40, not a 9 or 380, though i have not ruled those out, either.

Is it a problem in your AO for your co workers to know you are CCW?

no, i don't think so. i doubt any of my co-workers would care a whole lot, but i'd rather they didn't know/find out i carry at work. it is no secret that i have guns, and that my family thinks a few hours blasting away is a fantastic family outing, but that shouldn't be misconstrued into thinking i want my employer and co-workers to know i carry at work. my workplace has no policy on guns, and i don't want to be the reason a gun policy is put into place.

the dayplanner could work - i might check into that a little further.

i already have an ankle holster for the smith, and don't like it very much.

if i am going to re-visit my carry method, is milt sparks still the gold standard for concealing handguns in an iwb rig? w/ a tucked-in shirt?

Consider the KISS principle. You want to carry a gun without anybody knowing it, correct? Take the simplest route, you already own it. If draw speed isn't much of an issue go with what meets the need and learn to cope. I'm not a big fan of ankle holsters but it works in my situation and works well, so that's that. You get used to it.

Keep in mind, if carrying a gun was always easy and comfortable everybody would be doing it.
 
Carry this in pocket, coat pocket...vest...etc.

You need a true "inside-the-pocket" gun. So basically, a Kel-Tec p3AT, p32, or similar sized weapon. Revolvers and baby Glocks are only "pocket guns" if you are a large person and wear super-stitched pants.
 
I'll be looking into a Smart Carry as it seems to be a great way to conceal while in business attire. If that doesn't work than the belly band up under your armpits would be an option too.
