Real or fake

A friend of my wifes recently lost her husband to cancer and in going through his things she found this, my first thought was it was a fake just for putting on the wall but it does have a serial number. It is approx 9" long with a bore of approx 1/2 ". What is it and any idea of a value?

First thing you want to do is determine if it is loaded. If so, get it unloaded.

Second thing is to take close ups of all markings and closer shots of overall pistol from both sides.

Chances are though with a serial number - it is modern manufacturer. That also means it is very likely a firing replica.

I used to have a pistol like that; not sure what ever happened to it. It was a smoothbore muzzle loader, .44 or .45 caliber. I think it might have been built from a (poorly made) kit from Spain.

Yours might be worthless like mine, or it might be an original (and still might be worthless, or perhaps quite valuable but I doubt it)
 
From what I could tell from the photo it is a Classic Arms Kit gun, Still being sold by Dixie. If so value is very low, in the condition as shown, maybe 20-25 dollars. Yes it is a real gun, a single shot black powder precussion.

I would second what Ron James posted; the first thing I thought of when I saw your pix was that it was a modern Classic Arms BP reproduction called the New Orleans Ace. It was available as a complete model or as a 90% finished kit. Retail prices in 1977 were $44.95 for the complete model, and $29.95 for the kit.
