Hi, All!
I wanted to post photos, but I couldn't get them right. Sorry.
Two weeks ago I bought a Dan Wesson Guardian, and fell in love with it.
It is a great shooter, and has become my favorite carry gun.
The barrel is a true Match barrel. It has no leade, and a tight chamber.
The longest COL I can get to cycle in it is about 1.250", so I loaded a batch at 1.245".
It has been suggested that I should measure base-to-shoulder instead of COL,
and 0.920" seems to be the length that works for many people.
The rounds are 1.245" +/- 0.002"COL, and about 0.922" base-to-shoulder.The 'crimp' is 0.470".
I am used to seeing more of the shoulder ahead of the case mouth, so I want to check
with the knowledge and experience that is here at The High Road.
What say you?
Thanks All!

.45 ACP?

It sounds like you figured out the problem and solution. I'm not sure what the question is. I always load my 200 grain SWC's between 1.24 and 1.25. Some guns work with a slightly longer length, but others don't. Seating .01 deeper in .45 ACP isn't going to cause any problems.

Uncle.45, I just checked mine with a caliper and they, like yours measure right at 1.245. This BTW it gives .035 of bullet shoulder above the case mouth. Funny I've never bothered to measure it till now, I've been loading MBC 200 SWC for years and had enough shoulder sticking out to make me happy.

Shimitup,
I used to use MBCs 200gr SWCs, but now I stick to Precision Bullets.
For some reason I had trouble loading MBCs, but the Precision Bullets load and run 100%.
Besides, I have 4500 or so to use up.
I checked the shoulder measurement, and they average 0.025".
I suppose that's OK, it just looks odd after loading .020" longer for my SW1911 for over a year.
Thanks for the input!

243,
I know how small the 0.001" difference is between the MBCs and the Precisions, but they gave me grief. For some reason the .4525" that most of the MBCs measured caused both loading and cycling issues.
Any way, the .4515" Precisions work great at the bench and the range, so I plan to stick with them.
Thanks!

243,
When I saw your post on my phone it didn't show your photo.
About 0.950" is what I am used to.
Yours look 'normal' to me, but my Guardian barrel won't chamber rounds that long.

When I loaded my 200 gr bullets I left about the same width of bullet base above the neck as the width of the rim at the base and worked up the load for that combo. Never had any problems and they did feed in any of my 45's without issue. Never measured them though and that was many years ago, YMMV

As long as there is a little shoulder in front of the case mouth, its good to go.

I was always told to leave about a "thumbnail's width" out in front of the edge of the case mouth as a good rule of thumb.Obviously, more accurate measurement is required for a final setting, but I have always found this to be good advice for those 200 gr SWC .45 rounds.

I just came back from the range. I thought I would report before my 'cleaning party'.
The very first trigger squeeze fired a 'double'. It was so fast that I didn't believe it until I saw two holes in the target, and two fired cases a few feet from my right foot.
The RO just shrugged, so I aimed and fired again to get just one shot dead center of the target.
After that, there were no failures or malfunctions. The Guardian runs great, and is extremely accurate.
The ammo in question ran 100%, and shot very well.
Thanks for the input everyone!
