Really bad ammo! See what happened!

Trebor, were they using the 120gr JHP?That stuff is so hot I think it's an overload.

Nope, standard Wolf 9x18 FMJ. I believe it's 95 gr. This was two different students using two different boxes of ammo that they bought independantly. The Makarov got a cartridge jammed in the chamber so bad we had to push it out from the muzzle end with a range rod. One of the guys borrowed some S&B 9x18 from a different student to finish the class and the other student, IIRC, borrowed one of my guns to finish up.

Got different ammo!

Just got 100 rounds of .40 S&W Winchester for $21.93 (tax included) in Walmart.

Good price?

Good ammo?

*shrugs* I've had good experience with Wolf ammo. It makes fine range ammo for those of us on a budget (or those who are just economical and don't reload all that much).

Their .45 ACP, 9mm, .308, and .223 work quite well in my XD-45, Glock 19, Browning M1919, and Bushy AR without issues. Sure, the .223's not nearly as accurate as other stuff out there, but it's fine for plinking tin cans with friends at the range. If it jams (which it hasn't), then it's no big deal. The 7.62x39mm has worked very well indeed in my SKS, with only one or two stovepipes out of thousands of rounds fired.

Understand that it's cheap range ammo, but in general it works well. If you've been using it in the past and it continues to work well, excellent. If you've had problems, switch to something else. I've had good experience with it, and will continue using it until it gives me repeated problems.

Their .22LR stuff is actually made in Germany (by SK, I think), and is absolutely fantastic stuff. Definitely not "cheap plinking ammo", but more like "accurate competition ammo". Worth checking out.

Just my $0.02.

I use WOLF in my AK as there doesn't seem to be an alternative any more 5.45 X 39 is a little hard to find. On the other hand (I've got five fingers) :neener: the 70gr WOLF shoots fine, is quite accurate and not all that dirty.

wolf flows through my hk94,wolf stopped my p7 up real tight on second round. yeah,i know we or i should not have put wolf in a p7,but it was all we had left.kinda like an alcoholic drinking the hair tonic after the champagne is gone.

I've no trouble, problems nor qualms about using Wolf ammo in my SKSs, AK and 9mm carbines but never used it in any handguns.. I'll keep it that way. I have used plenty of Silver Bear and S&B ammo in some of my handguns without any problems.

I've had one problem in the 1300 .45 ACP wolf loads I've used. I had a cracked case in my S&W 625. It scared me, sure, but I shot the rest of the batch without a problem.

One out of 1300 isn't too bad in my book.

I use wolf sp in my mauser it's nice stuff made in yugoslavia. Boxer primed brass, accurate enough. I tried it in my 9mm. wouldn't cycle right. Wouldn't strip the top three rounds from the magazine. Had to only load 5 at a time. I still have 50 rounds of wolf 9mm sitting, waiting for me to do something with it. Maybe I can give it away next time i go to the range:evil:

I do like their 8x57 and 7.62x54r and 7.62x39 Of course that's to put in yugoslavian and russian guns. MAybe they like each other.

(It's nice to have 1950's surplus yugo ammo for my mauser and brand new shiney wolf ammo(made at the same "nny" factory)

The cheapest ammo I've shot was bought in bulk and remanufactured. $150 for 1000 rounds after shipping. Good stuff for the price.

I've shot up about a case and a half of Wolf Polymer .40S&W. Fired and extracted fine in a variety of guns (CZ40P CZ75B, EAA Witness Compact, Kahr MK40, Browning HP, Armscor P16 clone). I quit buying it because (A) the price has gone up enough I can find other ammo the same or cheaper, and (B) the polymer cases do seem to have a lot more friction in double stack magazines that sometimes causes "ride over feed" failures that go away if I switch to brass cased or CCI aluminum Blazer and return when I switch back to Wolf. Problem is worse in most double stack .45s but these can have the same issues with brass cased ammo if the springs get a little weak or the mags get dirty. I've shot up well over 10000 rounds of the .45 ammo and will continue to buy it when I find it for $40-50 cheaper per case than reloadable brass cased ammo.

How's brass cased ammo in it? I'd be concerned about an oversized chamber. Call Wolf, I've heard they will return your money to dis-satisified customers, which if your chamber in not oversized, you have very good reason to be!

I've had no problems with Wolf in 45 ACP or 7.62x39 which is all I've used. I just read an article in Shotgun News where a genuine firearms expert (not one of these "charlie and I went to the range...") says he exclusively uses Wolf 9x19 as range ammo in sub guns.

The "love it hate it" with Wolf reminds of the opinion of CCI aluminum case Blazer. Shooters loved it or hated it nothing in between.

shot the 9mm from glock19, model 92, bhp no problem. shot the .45 out of a kimber 1911, no problems. .223s werent a problem either.

I have never had any problems with Wolf ammo. The only brand I have had problems with is Sellior & Bellot. I used some in my Colt Army .38 Spl and it blew up the gun. :(

I've also seen ranges ban the use of Wolf simply because the eye-burning unclean-kittylitter reek it puts out ruins shooting for everyone else.

Compare the external demensions of Wolf ammo to a brass case round. You will see significant differences. The rim is a lot shallower. I think that Wolf ammo would work better if it had the same demensions as brass ammo.

I've shot almost three cases of Wolf .40 S&W in a variety of guns (but no HKs) and never seen any split cases. One gun had extraction/ejection issues (RAP 440), and quite a few double stacks have trouble getting the rounds up into positon when fully loaded because of the extra friction the cases seem to have causing some feed failures as soon as the mags get a little dirt/fouling. Wolf .40 sure ain't my favorite, but I'd check to see if these guns have over sized chambers -- the high ductility of brass cases may be hiding a latent problem.

I've got no stake in Wolf, but I've sure not seen any case splits like that and I've shot from at least four different lot numbers, I'd get the guns checked out, maybe the Wolf .40S&W cases just can't handle a maximum chamber, but if there is an over size issue and brass cases are hiding it for now, trouble may be brewing!

Wolf will give you your money back if you don't like the ammo, give them a call!

Three out of four local ranges ban Wolf, and they insist that reusing the cases has nothing to do with it- it's incredibly filthy ammo. My area police league also prohibits it.

My new USP 40 is fine with Wolf

After a couple of slow gun shows, had money burning a hole in my pocket so I finally broke down and got a USP 40. Normally I'm not a big fan of the .40S&W in full sized guns but the USP 45 besides being $55 more expensive was just too big to fit comfortably in my hand -- I don't need another safe queen like my Glock 21 which I bought despite the "too big feel".

Anyways still had a few boxes of Wolf .40 S&W so I ran one thru the USP 40 along with a box of of CCI aluminum Blazer FMJ, Aguila FMJ, and Winchester Ranger SXT JHP.

Gun functioned perfectly with all ammo. Aguila ammo felt the "hottest" in terms of recoil and muzzle blast. Toss up between the Wolf and Blazer for softest shooting.

Picked up a couple of hot empties (to be sure they were from my gun) to bring home and measure. The Wolf cases read 0.424-0.247" at the mouths, the Aguila measures 0.424-0.428" neither is perfectly round. Unfired Wolf ammo measures 0.420" at the case mouth, the Aguila comes in at 0.421"

I'd say either you got a bad lot of Wolf ammo (all makers have them from time to time, see the recent thread about split cases with CCI "Lawman" ammo), or your gun has an oversized chamber. Wolf has a money back gaurentee, take advantage of it if you are unhappy with the ammo.

I guess I'll add my "works for me" comment. The only Wolf ammo I have used is for my Mak, and I have never had a problem with it. For range ammo at around $60 for 500 rounds, it's hard to beat...:)
