Jus' curious,

I was looking thru the 2004 S&W catalog, and I noticed that the j-frames dont have rear sights. Are my eyes playing tricks on me or is that really true? I've never been much into the smaller revolvers so i never paid attention.

So it leads to the question, how do you shoot the gun w.o a rear sight? Point and shoot?

Thanks :)

Fixed sight. I would call it a sight trough. There is a slight indentation in the rear of the top strap with a [_] sight machined in.

Although this is not a J-frame this Smith & Wesson Military & Police revolver has a very similar rear sight arrangment.

Fixed rear sight

What you are looking at is a fixed rear sight, which is a "trough or a groove" milled down the top strap of the revolver. It's designed for either a weapon that will be put through adverse conditions.....i.e. the S&W or Colt Model of 1917 .45ACP revolver, S&W Model 10 M&P, ect....or for concealed carry, like the J-frame S&W you were looking at.....because it won't snag on clothing and it's not as fragile as an adjustable rear sight.
