I recently came across microtech blades and love the idea of an OTF pocket knife. I would like to find a couple options for good quality otf knives that are around the size microtech utx70 or a bit smaller than the Troodon. I've seen the Lightening OTFs and bought one to see if it's any good. I do like it but you can tell it's cheap quality. What are some other brands of OTF that are a little more reasonably priced than the microtech?

That schrade looks interesting, I was hoping for partial serration on the blade as well and I don't see any by them.

Hogue has one coming, but the folks at Blade Show said it would be between the Paragons and the Benchmades.

I've handled the Benchmade/HK Tumult OTF, and it felt like and operated like a reasonably well made OTF, but it's feel and function was not comparable to say a Benchmade Infidel, DKW-MOD SandShark, or Microtech Ultratech. I've also not used it as an EDC so I can't say how well the locking mechanism and the springs hold up over time. You can often find them for under $160, and there are several other Benchmade/HK OTFs models with slightly different length blades.

I recently placed an order for one of these...

I am looking forward to its arrival

If you like the Microtech, you might want to search on some knife forums for collectors selling Microtech OTFs in never used or lightly used condition, as you can save a fortune. You will most likely find the best deals on mid-generation Ultratech models. It shouldn't be too hard to find one for under $200. Limitations of OTFs aside, Microtech OTFs from that era are arguably among the best production OTFs. During that era, they also produced the Scarab/QD Scarab and Makora (which in the past few years they have started producing again.) IMO the Scarab and Makora models are some of the best looking knives in town! (Do note that most of the blade offerings on those models are generally double-edged spear points, presumably for the purpose of defense, but it comes at the expense of limited EDC & utility capability.)

Wow, thanks for the write up, that was very helpful. What websites would you recommend for used microtechs?
