I'm probably going to get one in a few days and just wanted to get some last minute opinions before I due. Pkease be brutally honest....Thanks
I wouldn't recommend that. I've been through two of them, they have a design flaw and have a tendency to crack behind the front site between the ports. I have seen no indication that they have addressed this flaw yet.I would consider getting the compensated version as they do not cost any more (at least not at my store).
Not entirely true. There have been several reports of people being able to get Springfield to ship them certain parts. It's limited, but it does happen. Being able to purchase spare parts is a problem though. The biggest thing for me is the lack of available replacement parts. If it breaks, no mater how minor, it's back to the factory for repair.
As I've posted before - Springfield will now ship parts to certified XD armorers. The down side is that there aren't too many certified XD armorers when compared to the number of certified Glock or S&W armorers, and the XD requires a more specialized tool set for a detail strip. The biggest thing for me is the lack of available replacement parts. If it breaks, no mater how minor, it's back to the factory for repair. I haven't seen any aftermarket parts for XDs yet either. Although it's changing now days, holsters and accessories have been hard to come by.
Correct, and actually the Tenifer/Melonite/Tufftride nitrocarburizing process is more than a coating. It's a chemical surface hardening treatment that actually penetrates to some depth in the metal. Corrosion resistance is a further benefit. Think of it as case hardening on steriods.Uh, SA is using the same coating as the glock for the last couple of years now aren't they? So the wear issue is only on the originals?
