I have an H&R Topper 12 gauge single shot shotgun that I bought new in the early 80s. Long ago, the lug that the forend bolt screws to detached under recoil. This is not the lug that holds the barrel to the frame, just the lug used only to hold on the forend.
I would like to reattach the lug myself. Would silver solder be strong enough to hold it on or do I need to brass braze it? ASSuming silver solder is appropriate, can someone recommend one of these at Brownells? I would buy a MAPP torch to heat the solder.
(Please don't suggest sending the barrel back to H&R. The shotgun is too old for them to service, and I'd like to try fixing it myself anyway.)
Thanks.
