My dad has a Winchest Mod 70 in .22-250. He wants to change it to .257 Roberts. Can it be done, is the action long enough to handle a .257 Roberts? Looking for any info / advice. Thank you.

The conversion can be done. The easiest way to see if the conversion is feasable is to see if the 257 cartridge will fit in the magazine.
The magazine for the 22-250 could have a block in it to aid in the loading a feeding of the cartridge. If the block is there, removing the bock could allow enough room for the 257. If the block is not there then the action is likely too short to allow for the 257.

I bet a .250-3000/.250 Savage would fit.
And if he didn't mind fooling with a wildcat, a .250 Improved would be close enough to a .257 for all practical purposes.

I'm sure Jim Watson's suggestion is correct, seeing it's essentially the same case. And you could easily push the envelope in the M70 action. Not a big difference in performance from 250 Savage to 257 Roberts.

I told him about the idea to convert it to the .250 Savage. I think he likes that idea and wants me to see if I can find any gunsmiths where we live in northern Missouri. I don't think there's a whole lot up here, or at least anyone willing to take on a barrel change. Anyway, thanks for the help fellers.
