I bought a Mauser for $100 bucks from the Pawn Shop years ago, it was in descent condition (for a pawn shop). It's not sporterized and chambered in 30-06. I recently just cleaned the bore out and found it to be horribly pitted.

I'm wanting to:

One- buy a new Mauser barrel preferably in .308 (if that's possible)

I bought a "Famage" Mauser for $100 bucks from the Pawn Shop a couple of years ago, it was in descent condition (for a pawn shop). It's not sporterized and chambered in 30-06. I recently just cleaned the bore out and found it to be pitted (so I'm sure accuracy will be poor).

I'm wanting to:

One- buy a new Mauser barrel preferably in .308 (if that's possible)
Two- have a gunsmith put the barrel on and parkerize all the metal.
Three- (perhaps) put a WWII replica scope mounted to the side (not a rear sight replacement scope).

Can anyone point me in the right directions to do the things I want done to this Mauser?

Thanks
Steve

"R.Famage" Mauser's were converted / re-bored from 7mm Mauser to 30-06 years ago by Columbia.

Then sold as surplus and imported into the USA.

Your rifle can probably be converted to .308 with a barrel change by a gunsmith.

It is not however, a DIY project on the kitchen table by any stretch of the imagination.

You will need at a minimum, a heavy workbench, a barrel vice, an action wrench, a finish chamber reamer, headspace gages, and perhaps a 36" metal lathe.
