I just received my new Yugo M24/47 from Samco earlier today. I ordered the "collector grade" from them at the time of my order. The woman who took my order said that the gun would be in "excellent" condition with "new accessories". I don't know if anyone has looked at their website lately, but the accessories includes the bayonet, scabbard, sling, etc. The accessories that come with the "collector package" are suppose to be new while those that come in the plain M24/47 accessory kit for $24.95 are used. I wouldn't say that the accessories that came with my rifle are exactly "new" by any stretch of the imagination. My big question however is with the rifle. The rifle that I received appears to be in fairly excellent condition with the metal in overall excellent condition except for a little missing bluing here and there. The numbers all seem to match from what I can tell. The main thing that I notice is a stock repair on the right side of the stock toward the back. It looks like the stock had been gouched out at some point and a new piece of wood has been spliced in and glued. The particular repair is about 2 inches long by 1/4 inch wide. The spiced in wood wasn't sanded down very evenly after it was glued in to match the rest of the stock. My question is...is that what I should expect from a collector grade M24/47 or not? Is the wood repair to be expected in a collector grade rifle or not? Does it take away from the value very much? Should I send it back and request a replacement? I am new at this Curio collecting thing and am still trying to learn the ropes. This is only my second purchase, so I am still a "little green".

In my opinion,a 24/47 with a stock repair is not in "excellent" or "collector grade" condition, since many better examples exist.I have 2 in virtually new appearance.Sounds like you got a rack grade, not what you paid for.

I picked up a 24/47 at the gunshow this weekend for $120. The wood is in excellent condition with the exception of a crack (repaired) in the upper handguard between the rear sight and the receiver ring. The metal is in great shape with the onlymissing bluing being right at the muzzle and the bore looks brand new. I didn't get ANY accessories though and I'd have paid $20 for a set in reasonable "used" shape.

FWIW.

"You get what you pay for"---only if you're lucky in todays market. You didn't get what most would call collector grade. For a 24/47 to be anything out of the ordinary you; should not be seeing any blue wear even on sharp edges--The wood should not show any signs of refinish or repair, the bolt face and bore should be pit-free and spotless. This is just my opinion but 24/47's are typically in good condition since they weren't used in war. I would give Samco a chance to make it right. Let us know.

My rack grade M24/47 is in better shape than what you got. It has about 98% of the bluing and the stock was in great condition. It only came with the bayo, but that's fine by me.

I think you got ripped off if you paid extra for collector grade. I would take it up with Samco.

I'd send it back. The price doesn't justify the package or condition unless the bayonet has a matching serial number to the rifle, then it would be a rare find and worth it.

Seems Samco is acquiring a reputation for pawning off second rate goods to 03s lately. Before your 3 day inspection expires, call them and return it for replacement.

Yugo 24/47s were all 1924 models rebuilt in 1947 after WW2. I've seen dozens of them, and lots ,if not most, have various stock repairs. Fortunatly most had new bbls installed. I don't know how good of a deal you got, but these were refurbished battle rifles. It seems most of the unissued ones may have been sold earlier,as they have been available for a couple of years now. They usually are great shooters.

I agree on sending them back.

I picked up 2 Yugo's from Century as U-fix-ums last year for, I think, about $50 each. They didn't come with any accessories and I ended up buying a firing pin for each, but overall, it sounds like they are in better condition than what you got.

Oh, I did have to glue a crack on the upper hand guards and I did a wood splice that was like 1" x 1/4".
