Sorry everyone, last noob question.

On my 500, the rib on the barrel is not exactly in line or contacting the "rib" which is on the top of the receiver. It's hardly noticeable when shouldered and doesn't seem to be affecting shooting. I also checked inside the receiver, and the barrel extension IS fitting pretty well into its slot on the extractor. Is this just normal, inexpensive machining? If so, great, and I'll get back to enjoying it.

Thanks

I would say "hardly noticeable" is about as good as it gets for a mass produced shotgun of modest price, so don't worry about it and enjoy.

If it doesn't affect shooting I wouldn't worry about it. You are lucky. I have a Mossberg 500 barrel that hits eighteen inches left at thirty yards! It makes for an interesting day on the dove field!
