Recoil diff. 32acp/380acp short gun only

.380 is going to recoil about 10-20% more given same weight guns, euro 32 acp is much hotter than US stuff (about 200 fps in my guns) it makes it hard to tell the difference between my walther pp 32acp and big brothers ppk/s in 380

The .380 has more recoil but the .32 has a sharper recoil so it feels worst. The .380 is a push, the .32 is a slap, has to do with bullet weight, powder used, pressure curve.

My P32 has very light recoil, my CZ27 has about zero:) The sharp, skinny Keltec triggers are what hurt.

Action type also makes a big differance.

A blow-back .380 PPK/S Walther hurts me much worse then the much lighter locked-breach Kel-Tec P3AT.

I'll tell you how my .380 Guardian (that I just bought Sat) recoils when the docs release me to shoot :banghead: which may not be till the end of Nov. now.

My .32NAA version of the Guardian is snappy but that is a relatively high pressure and high velocity round.

Since I own both of the twins pictured below I feel I can share some info here. With target ammo the recoil is very close to being the same, the slightly more powerful round of the 380 is made up in the 32acp due to a slightly smaller gun, which makes the recoil feel equal. The difference is when you load up some Corbon SD rounds in the 380, OH Man!!!! now there's a difference!! These rounds quickly let you know you are shooting something with some more power.
Ratingredneck,
What happened to you? Are you okay? You just got the 380 Guardian I bet you are dying to shoot it. I hope you recover quickly.

When you have two pistols of similar weights, all-steel, built like the proverbial "brick s#@t house", the .32acp in mine is one-step above my .22 Beretta. The .380 does have a little sting to it, but the perception is in the eye of the holder....:)

@NCHornet

Here's the full story:

http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=306807

The thumbnail version is that I was bowhunting 3 1/2 weeks ago and fell 18 feet from my treestand and broke my back. Had surgery, didn't lose any function in any limbs (Thank God). But for now I'm wearing a turtleshell brace and have a 5lb weight restriction. The docs don't want me shooting till I go back for my next appointment where they'll xray the site and see how everything is fusing together. They fused 4 vertebrae in my mid/lower back. My appointment was scheduled for Nov 9, but just got pushed back to the 30th I found out today. I'm fighting that one though. By that point I'll be out of leave from work and will be in leave without pay mode. Either they give me an earlier appointment or I go back without their blessing. I'm a desk jockey though so it really shouldn't matter by then.

I have fired both the Kel-Tec P-3AT and the P-32 one after the other at the range. Since both guns weigh the same and have the same exact detentions it's a very fair test. The felt recoil with the .380 Auto round is considerably more than with the .32 Auto. (and I had the very hot Fiocchi .32 Auto round and my friend had Winchester .380 rounds)

Man I am sorry you got hurt so bad. 18ft is a long way and you could have been killed, but I am sure you know that. Did you not have a harness? Many of buddies bow hunt and few of them use one, even though we know people who have been paralyzed in such accidents. I will keep you in my prayers and hope the doctors get their act together and work to your benefit. If there is anything I can do please don't hesitate to ask.
Kevin

Hey Madgyar,
Where did you get those ostrich skinned grip panels? Not sure how well they would hold up but they are definetly cool looking.
Thanks
NCHornet

Rantingredneck I too am very sorry to hear of your accident sounds painful. Hope recovery is without further incident and quick. Man, hang in there.
You bought the Guardian 380 out of admiration or BUG necessity? I think it's one gorgeous piece myself and I just layed away a 32. I'm grappling with the thought of I can have a 380 if I can make the decision before payoff.
NCHornet I envy you, both of them. Wow

First and foremost thanks for the well wishes. I am doing much better the last few days and am tapering myself off the heavy duty drugs and going more toward OTC painkillers like ibuprofen. If nothing else if feels better just to not be so darn fuzzyheaded.

As to the Guardian line of pistols and my affections for them, I bought a .32NAA about 4 years ago, not long after they came out. It's the .380 case necked down to .32 and is the same overal size, weight, and dimensions as the .380. An oddball caliber for sure, but I was intrigued. I've pocket carried it for awhile and have been very happy with it's reliability, accuracy, and ease of carry in a good holster. If you're interested in how well they shoot here is my target from the "Long walk short pier challenge" thread. People complain about their weight compared to a keltec, but I actually like the feel of a good solid piece of shootin iron myself (Maybe that's why I like Rugers too :uhoh:). These are well made pistols and are well worth what I paid for both of mine (just shy of 400.00 each). It's nice that NAA also stands behind their products very well compared to many other gun companies. Because of that, and because they are no longer being made (at least through the contract with Kahr Arms) I've wanted a .380 to go along with it. Finally scored one this last Saturday and I am DYING to shoot it. Only a few weeks though. (Unless I can sneak off to the range without the Mrs. finding out ) Naah. I got too much money invested in my spine reconstruction to have to have a do-over. I can wait. Impatiently.

I would think that someday those Guardians in .380 and .32NAA that have "Kahr Arms" stamped on the frame (like mine :)), should be worth some $. I have no idea how many were made and sold, but they weren't in production for many years before the deal went south. I've not been on the NAA forums lately and don't know what the status is of NAA making those models in-house themselves, but theres been a lot of talk for a year or better now.

I would also think that the .32NAA is fairly rare compared to the others and should be a collectors piece some day. Once I test out my .380 and it performs to my expectations (of which I have no doubt), I plan to semi retire the .32NAA so that it will maintain it's value better.

I have fired both the Kel-Tec P-3AT and the P-32 one after the other at the range. Since both guns weigh the same

The SG P-32 weighs 6.6oz empty and the SG P-3AT 8.3oz, which makes the P-3AT 25% heavier. First-Generation P-32s are the same weight as second-generation P.32s. However, FG P-3ATs weighs only 7.3oz, so it would appear that Kel-Tec intentionally increased the weight of SG P-3AT to reduce recoil a bit.
