Speaking of 45-70, it can be loaded down to around 900 FPS with Trail Boss and it is fun and soft to shoot. I had some sort of detachment, I went to a real eye doctor, MD, and she said nothing about shooting rifles. I still pass my flight physicals, dunno.

I'm glad to hear that you are doing well. However I don't believe many M.D.'s have experience with firearms. Did ask the doctor about rifle recoil and eye health? Continued good health to you.

I know one victim of detached retina who said he would shelve his .300 magnum and hunt with .270.
In practice, I believe he just quit hunting and shooting.
Didn't do any good, the ophthalmologists could not repair the eye.

I think in my case it is the vitreous that has shrank and pulled away partially from the retina. She said this was a normal process of aging. It can in some cases cause a retinal tear or scar but in my case has not. I think what initiated the "normal" process (per her) is that I had a bicycle fall/crash during a gravel grinder race crossing some rip rap in a washout on the alleged road.
