Suggestions for a recoil pad for a Winchester 94? It's a pre-64, I've got it all apart now refinishing the stock and cleaned the action up. I've just gone through two rounds of shoulder surgery and the metal butt plate beat me last time out. It never bugged me before my body revolted but I'd rather take it easy on the repaired regions if possible

There is a good thread on recoil pads running in Shotguns forum right now.
Good suggestions there.

I friend had shoulder surgery a few years ago and went with a PAST strap-on recoil pad he wears under his shirt. (Rather then sawing off all his fine rifle stocks and putting pads on them)

He continues to use it when shooting hard kicking big bores up to .458 Mag and loves it.

I have an early 1900s 94 with "Stock option #6" from the catalog.
The recoil pad is red rubber and labeled Ranger.

I also have a Glaco add on leather recoil pad (laces) with a fitted piece of "Doc Shoals Gell" between it and the butt of a Remington 870 tac. 12ga I needed the extra length but shooting slugs is almost nothing now.

HTH good luck with the search.

94 stocks are generally a bit short,, you may be able to install a pad without cutting the stock. You could also get a used replacement stock to use while you need the pad. If your gun is post-war, later stocks should fit and be relatively easy to find, you may even find one already cut some for a smaller shooter. I dont recall the change date for the tang right beside the hammer, but even later stocks will fit earlier guns, they just leave a gap on the area beside the hammer.

I like Pachmayer decelerator pads, they look good on classic styled guns and are fairly soft.
