Recommend a bolt 308

Looking to pick up another bolt action 308. Already have Ruger Gunsite scout which I like, but don’t want to spend $800 again. Also don’t want it to be a shorter barreled scout rifle again. Is there any longer barreled 308’s capable of taking higher capacity mags that are less than $500 you would recommend?

Look at the Mossberg MVP (takes SR25 mags) or the newer Ruger Americans- I believe they have one as well.

There are plenty to choose from, but not sure why since you already have such a nice one. Remington 700 might be my choice. But there are plenty to choose from. You'll get as many suggestions as there are posts.

Not many that meet his criteria. Actually none that I can think of that meet all of them.

The Tikka T-3 is a good choice, but 5+1 rounds are the biggest mags available that I know of, price will be a little over $500 though. If 5 is enough that would be an excellent choice. The Ruger Predator is available in a version that takes 3, 5, and 10 round AI style magazines. But the barrel is 18", only about 2" longer than you're Scout. Price is about $400-$450

The same Predator is available in 6.5 CM, takes the same mags and comes with a 22" barrel.

The Tikka CTR is about 2X your budget, but otherwise comes closest to meeting your criteria. It comes with a 10 round magazine and a 20" barrrel in 308. Longer barrels are available in other calibers. You really don't need much more than 18-20" in a 308.

go tikka or ruger american. they pretty much are guaranteed to shoot real good.

I usually recommend Tikka first, but when you said high cap mags under 500, I thought of the Ruger American.

Not getting rid of the gunsite scout, just thinking about getting another 308 and ideally it would use the same mags as the gunsite. Not sure how many use this same style though. Doesn’t seem like many.
