Recommend a fiction book for me

Well I'm taking a flight soon from Chicago to Oakland and I'm looking for a good fiction paperback to read on the flight.

So I want to hear about some good stuff with lots of guns and gunplay I like a lot of Tom Clancy stuff but I think I've read it all. My favorite of his was Rainbow Six but I liked a lot of the others as well. I've kinda been on a Glock kick lately too so if there are any that feature glocks prominently than that's an extra bonus.

Either way I'm hoping to find something soon that's well-written with some good shooting action.

Read "The Green Ripper" by John D.MacDonald.
Travis McGee knocks off about 2 dozen bad guys in maybe the best of the 21 novel series.

Any of Randy Wayne White's "Doc Ford" novels.

These are somewhat like John D. McDonald's Travis McGee novels, but the protagonist is an ex-government agent trying to live a quiet life as a marine biologist in Florida...and everyone knows that's not possible.

Lots of action, decent plots. I think they're worthwhile.

Well, I certainly agree regarding Travis McGee and Doc Ford but as also recommended above, you should definitely check out any Stephen Hunter book but especially the "Bob Lee Swagger" series.

Hunter knows his guns and knows how to tell a story.

Consider also "The Secret Servant" by Daniel Silva - an Israeli spy dealing with Islamic terrorists in Europe. Well done and echoes of the current world.

Agree on this.Randy is excellent.
Also James W.Hall with his protagonist Thorn ,are good reads.
"Off the Chart" and "Blackwater Sound" will keep you turning the pages.
Violent,but cool.

I'll also vote for Stephan Hunter, start with "Black Light" if you can find it. It isn't a pre-quel, it stands alone outside the Swagger novels, and pre-dates them. It sets the tone for all the rest.

If you're feeling adventerous, try John Ringo's "Ghost". Seals, guns, girls, no super-natural.

+1. Point Of Impact is the first in the series (bob lee, that is) but in my opinion Black Light is the best, and you don't really need to read them in order, but it might spoil some things if you do (though not many).

Read Raymond Chandler's "The Lady in the Lake."

Great choice. And Chandler's "The Big Sleep" and "The Long Goodbye" are tops in the hard boiled detective genre.
Raymond Chandler stands alone as our greatest writer of realistic tough guy fiction.
Also Dashiell Hammett's "The Maltese Falcon" is right up at the top.

Point of Impact, Black Light, and Time to Hunt by Stephen Hunter. Excellent books. I don't read much but I bought Point of Impact for something to do on the flight down to Florida and I couldn't put it down. I then bought the sequels to the story because they were so good.

I've been thinking about checking out Correia's book as well. I hear good things.

I was going to suggest Ghost by John Ringo, but CB900F beat me to it
You might also try A Hymn Before Battle, also by Ringo
Sci Fi, lots of guns and exotic weapons, and REALLY nasty aliens
I liked it better than Ghost
Princess of Wands, another Ringo, (can you tell I like Ringo)
Lots of guns, but Sci Fi with an occult bent to it
Starship Troopers by Heinlein is possibly my favorite book of all time.
Bears only a passing resemblance to the movie.
Not a lot of guns, but powered armor suits that drop from orbit.
Tunnel in the Sky by Heinlein is actually a juvenile, but you wouldn't know it.
Sort of a Lord of the Flies survival story
