Recommend a gun belt under $40

There is no such thing as gun grade leather, just a brand name that will take $50 out of your pocket.
Nonsense. Most off the shelf belts are going to be made of cheap chrome tanned leather. Chrome tanned leather does not hold its shape. It stretches and eventually tears. Skip the cheap crap and get a good gun belt from a reputable shop. A good gun belt will be made of two layers of vegetable tanned cowhide. It will hold its shape. It will not sag. Not only support your carry gun and everything else but it will last a very long time.

Oil tanned bridle leather will bleed onto your clothes.

I have a Jakes Belt by Theis holsters. I think you will find the owner, Tommy theis floating around many forums. I want to say it was probably in the $60 range which I know is outside your price range request BUT it is about 2 years old and I have worn it every day, almiost always with a gun and it has held its shaped perfectly. It has some scratches and knicks in it now but that is because I am rough with it and has no bearing on anything but myself.

I orignally had 5.11 belts that are about $30-35 and are thick and strong BUT my one complaint is within 2 months the velcro has been nearly all but gone. I have one that after 4-5 months the velcro literally wont stick to the other side and I had to adjust and stick it under the belt loop on the pants. I am not sure that anyone will be able to get a strong enough needle nearby to replace the velcro and it be worth just replacing the belt.

Look for a Propper 180 (Link); it's essentially a Wilderness belt (two layers of scuba webbing, five rows of stitching) with a 'normal' buckle. Much less obvious, IMHO, than the Wilderness buckle.

As a bonus, it's reversible, and can be found on sale for ~$10; the last two I bought (I have all three colors) were actually under $10 shipped
.
I have several belts both leather and wilderness style and like the above best of all

I like the belt but I'm wondering if it'll thread through a leather holster like a leather belt does. Some of my leather holsters are pretty tight jamming the belt through.

Does anyone have a belt like this?

The one I posted is the "thin" version. Thin meaning less thick and more flexible, not less width. I believe the "thin" version comes in 1.5" width only, while the regular version is available in both 1.5" and 1.75". I like the G-hook buckle because it is very flat. I became aware of this belt because several members on M4carbine.net said they owned it and liked it.

If you are "threading" belts through your holster, I assume you are carrying OWB. I don't carry OWB so I don't have any experience with that method, but I would assume that if I had a dedicated belt and OWB holster, I would just leave the holster attached to my carry belt and then don the belt/holster combo. I don't see a scenario where I would frequently be threading the belt through the leather holster.
